Everything you need to know in 1 class! Great review for 2nd timers or for planned cesarean section parents. Topics include Baby Basics & Introduction to Car Seat Safety. To help you take notes during the day, class fee includes one FREE 98-page PCT Childbirth Workshop workbook as well as a "Diane Ellen" pen! Class includes misc. beverages (coffee/tea/cocoa/juice) and "unhealthy" snacks (doughnut holes, pretzels, animal crackers, cheesey crackers).
Location: One weekend a month class is at Boca Raton Community Hospital in the auditorium in the education building opposite the maternity entrance (800 Meadows Road, Boca Raton, FL 33486). Single day class is at Women's Healthcare Associates (6853 SW 18th Street, Suite 301, Boca Raton, FL 33433).
Bring: Water to drink, healthy snacks, sweater/sweat shirt. Wear comfortable clothes so may try to sit on birthing balls. A 45-minute break is given for you to go out and get your desired food for lunch.

Hospital Tours of Maternity Units

I recommend taking a tour of each hospital where your doctor
or midwife has privileges to deliver your baby. Call each hospital and ask if they offer a tour of the maternity unit, when it is offered and do you need to reserve a spot. During the tour, take note of such factors as security and what kind, any free breastfeeding assistance if needed (Lactation Consultants), private rooms or possible shared rooms, friendly staff and overall appearance of unit. Which place did you like best? Take a tour of all places then you decide! Then go register!

I am very excited! I am offering, yet another, new service to expecting moms and dads! Beginning mid-July, I will be RENTING WATER LABOR TUBS to pregnant moms-to-be who wish to labor, in a hospital setting, but in a water tub! Please read the below article for full details! This is great news for women who want to try and have an unmedicated hospital birth but want more options than just bouncing on a ball or walking in the halls of the hospital. For more information about the other recently added services, BIRTH PHOTOGRAPHY & 1ST DAY HOME WITH BABY VISIT, read the column to the left. Happy Fourth of July everyone! This is the time of year for picnics, barbecues, family, friends, and fireworks! Fireworks can be fun to watch, but can also be very dangerous. In 2007, an estimated 11 deaths, 9,800 injuries, and 2,600 children ages 14 and under were treated in the US emergency rooms for injuries involving fireworks. In 2008, the numbers declined, but still there were 7 fireworks-related deaths and an estimated 7,000 hospital emergency room treated injuries. In According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, approximately 40% of the people injured by fireworks are under the age of 15! ANOTHER NEW SERVICE! offered by Diane Ellen! RENT A TUB TO LABOR IN...
WHILE AT THE HOSPITAL!
The BEST NEW alternative for the woman wishing to experience childbirth without medication or epidural anesthesia. Many years ago, I came across an amazing video called "Birth into Being". Filmed  by a Russian midwife, it showed women birthing in clear birthing pools as well as birthing in the Black Sea. Now, my background consists of a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from a college in New York. My first job was in a very large teaching hospital in New York. So, my foundation is definitely that of a technical-medical world. But I found this movie oddly intriguing. That was about 7 years ago. Since then, I was invited to witness a woman labor in a tub at her home. Not sure how I would feel about this, I tried to observe with an open mind. I noticed something immediately. Although in active labor, she appeared calm and comfortable when in the tub. Whenever she stood up out of the water to allow the midwife to assess her baby's heartbeat, she said the labor pain was unbearable. Then she would sink back into the warm tub bath water and begin to relax all over again. I admit, this was interesting to watch. But this was so far from my medical education and technical training as a Nurse in a hospital setting. I personally feel more comfortable with women laboring and birthing in the hospital setting, but I always secretively wished we could combine the best of both worlds! Why not let them labor in a tub at the hospital so they could experience this natural comfortable way of laboring while having access to the medical world (nurses, doctors, medications, interventions) if the laboring situation changed and the need for these people and things arose???? Most hospitals do not allow laboring women to labor in these birthing tubs in their hospital settings. Well... I HAVE GREAT NEWS!!!
BOCA RATON COMMUNITY HOSPITAL, in Boca Raton, Florida, now allows you to bring in your own tub if you desire to experience laboring in water! Now my wish has come true! Moms can choose to LABOR IN WATER IN A TUB IN A HOSPITAL SETTING! I think this is great! One more choice for moms! So...maybe you want to "totally try to go natural" or maybe you want to "wait as long as possible before you get your epidural". Whatever your desire, you now have another choice. Labor in water for 10 minutes, an hour, several hours. However long you want. You decide! Now, of course, there are medical contraindications and potential risks, etc. Of course, you would need to discuss all details, prior, with your doctor or midwife. Ask the hosptial for their list of rules, etc. for the tub. I just want to be able to help you have access to these tubs, if you so desire! If you choose to RENT A TUB, either I, or an associate, will come to the hospital when you are in labor and set up the tub. Each tub has their own disposable inner liner. When you are done with the tub, call me. Someone will come and dissemble and remove the tub. You don't have to do anything...other than enjoy laboring in the tub! There is a limited number of tubs available for rental, so reserve your tub as soon as you decide this is something you desire to do! I am very excited for the laboring women at Boca Raton Community Hospital! I am very proud of Boca Raton Community Hospital for offering this natural option to their laboring patients! On behalf of the moms that are going to love this new service...I say "thank you"!

 FOURTH OF JULY FIREWORK SAFETY TIPS!
Have fun...just be safe!
- Never let children play with fireworks! They are intended for adults to use, in open spaces, and children should watch from a safe distance.
- Make sure fireworks are legal in your area before buying or using them.
- DO NOT LET THEM GET TOO CLOSE!
- Safest way is to enjoy them at a community event where professionals handle them.
- Light fireworks on smooth, flat surfaces, and aim they away from spectators, buildings, dry leaves, and flammable materials.
- DO NOT try to relight fireworks that malfunction.
- DO NOT carry fireworks in your pocket or hold them close to your face.
- Never shoot them off in metal or glass containers.
- LIGHT THEM ONE AT A TIME, THEN MOVE BACK QUICKLY!
- DO NOT make or use homemade fireworks.
- There are many injuries to children under five years of age due to SPARKLERS! Sparklers burn at temperatures of about 2,000 DEGREES! Hot enough to melt some metals!!!!!
- Never point or throw fireworks at another person.
- Keep a telephone handy, and know first aid procedures for burns.
- Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose handy in case of fire or other mishap.
- Keep a fire extinguisher handy and know how to use it.
- Teach your child how to call 911 in an emergency.
- Teach your child what to do it their clothing catches on fire: "STOP, DROP, AND ROLL!"
