January 2009
|
Hello Everyone! Welcome to the JANUARY 2009 e-newsletter!
I hope everyone had a good holiday season! I think New Year's is important. It is a time to reflect back on the previous year's experiences, challenges and lessons. It is a time to look forward to new possibilities and exciting opportunities for the coming year! Promises we make to ourselves, resolutions we hope to carry out. Anyone have any New Year's Resolutions they want to share??? Me??? I want to practice being more grateful, focus more on the positive "things" I do have, recycle more, exercise more, eat healthier, and worry less. Learn how to "go with the flow"...trust in God/Universe...and laugh more. Recently, I had an idea. It made me laugh. I actually laughed for awhile and still kinda laugh when I think about it now. So...I want to share that chuckle with you! I know that this past year has been a stressful one for many. Lately, some of us are so wrapped up in the economic conditions that we "forget" to laugh. Well...I want to help you bring laughter into 2009. So read the part below about my "Diane Ellen Pen". Let's see if we can't put a smile on one another's faces each month (if only for a moment). That's it! I wish all of you the absolute best year ever! I think 2009 is going to be a year of great changes and endless possibilities! Maybe we'll have to think about things differently or try new things, venture out of our comfort zones or "think outside the box"! But anything and everything is possible for us in 2009! Happy New Year!~Diane

2008 Statistics Are In!
Among MY labor support clients...here are 2008's numbers!
- The most common girl's name was AVA and the boy's name was MATTHEW! (last year was Grace/Maggie and Dylan!)
- 52% were boys and 48% were girls! (last year was 59% and 41%! We are catching up to you guys!!!! 2009---watch out!)
- 65% stored their cord stem cells for themselves/their family and 2% gave their stem cells away and donated them to a stranger!
- 13% of moms went without any pain medicine.
- 36% used the birthing ball
- The busiest month was tied-July & August!
- The most popular day of the week to be born on was Wednesday then Monday. The least likely days to have the baby were Sunday then Saturday (shocking! not really...hehe...) (Same days all around as last year!)
- The babies weighed between 4lbs.13oz- 9lbs.5oz with the average birth weight being 6lbs.10oz.
- Only (1) set of twins this year! and they were boys!
- For the 2nd year in a row...I helped "make a baby" on My Birthday! June 20th! What are the chances of that again this year??? he-he... :-)
...and that's some trivia from 2008! Let's see what 2009 brings!

2008 Car Safety Statistics!
Ah...you know me and my safety!!! I have some good news about it! With a little help from www.dot.gov/affairs/nhtsa:
- More Americans are buckling up than ever before. According to our U.S. Secretary of Transportation, 83% of vehicle occupants used seat belts during daylight hours (vs. 82% in 2007. Approximately 270 lives are saved for every 1% increase in belt use.)
- The number of people killed in traffic crashes is expected to reach a record low in 2008, with an almost 10% drop in the first 10 months of the year. This year has been one of our nation's safest periods in transportation history!
- Frontal air bags saved 2,788 passengers age 13 and older.
- Car Seats saved the lives of 382 children age 4 and under.
- Seat belts saved 15,147 lives.
- Seat belts COULD HAVE SAVED ANOTHER 5,024 lives had they been worn by all vehicle occupants involved in fatal crashes.
Congratulations!!! Keep up the good work!!! Let's try as hard as we can to:
- Not talk on the cell phone as we drive!
- Make sure our infants/toddlers/children are secured in the appropriate seats for their age, weight, and size!
- Keep everyone under 13 years of age in the back seat! (and anyone elderly or fragile!)
- MAKE 2009 A MISSILE-FREE YEAR! You know I am anti-MISSILE!!! (if you took my class you know what this means!...the mirrors, toys, tools, etc.)
- LET'S STOP BACKING OVER OUR CHILDREN! Remember, every week 50 children are backed over by cars---2 do not survive! PLEASE LOOK WHERE YOU ARE DRIVING. PAY ATTENTION! BACK INTO THE DRIVEWAY.
DON'T BE A STATISTIC!... PLEASE TAKE EVERY PRECAUTION TO DRIVE SAFELY FOR YOU & YOUR PASSENGERS! YOUR BABY & CHILDREN THANK YOU!
