December 2008 |
Hello Everyone! Welcome to the DECEMBER 2008 e-newsletter!
First I'd like to wish you all a VERY HAPPY, HEALTHY, AND PEACEFUL HOLIDAY SEASON! Sometimes holiday time is filled with fun, family, kind acts of giving, and laughter. Sometimes holiday time seems stressful: finances, family, traveling, worrying about gifts, and end of year stresses. I hope for some of you this will be a reminder to relax and take breaks. Practice your labor breathing---at a red light, take a deep breath in and blow it out! Take some time to be kind to yourself! Go to the gym. Stop for a cup of coffee with a friend. Get that massage. Don't forget to put yourself on the top of your holiday list!
Your responses to last month's requests for "what you were thankful for" were touching. Most of you said you were thankful for your good health, good family, and your children. One of you bragged that your newborn was already sleeping 4-5 hours at night! And, of course, some of you said you were thankful for meeting me! Ah...you guys are so corney...but that's why I love you! :-)
I received a suggestion and want to share it with you. When doing your holiday cards this year, take one card and send it to the address below. This is from the American Red Cross (www.redcross.org):
Holiday Mail for Heroes is a partnership between the American Red Cross
and Pitney Bowes to deliver one million holiday cards to American
service members, veterans and their families in the United States and
around the world. Please send cards to this address, following the
guidelines listed below:
***** Holiday Mail for Heroes *****
PO Box 5456
Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456
Please follow these simple guidelines when sending your card to
ensure it will quickly reach service members, veterans and their
families:
*All cards must be postmarked no later than Wednesday, December 10, 2008. Cards sent after this date will be returned to sender.
*If
sending more than one card, please mail all cards together in one large
shipping envelope. Cards sent in this manner do not need individual
envelopes or postage.
*Please ensure that all cards are signed.
*Please use generic salutations such as "Dear Service Member."
*Please do not include personal information, like email or home addresses.
*Please do not send letters.
*Please do not include inserts of any kind, including photos, glitter, confetti, gift cards or calling cards. Any items inserted into cards will be removed during the reviewing process.
*All cards received may be used in program publicity efforts, including appearing in broadcast, print or online mediums. What a great idea! Let's bring the holiday spirit to others! HAPPY HOLIDAYS to All !!!
I look forward to talking to you "next year"!!! ~Diane

Car Safety & ICE! Hey MOMS & DADS DRIVING WITH THEIR NEW BABY OR CHILDREN IN THE CAR...HAVE YOU "ICE'D"???
I.C.E.---In Case of Emergency! Most of us have heard of this life saver but just haven't gotten around to doing it. We think it is a good idea...but can't take a minute out to do it??? Come on everyone...let's get ICE!
I know what some of you are thinking, "ICE??? Does she know where we live"??? Well my fellow Floridians, I'm not talking about the slippery cold stuff our friends up North experience...not that kind of ICE! This ICE is a simple code that can be used by anybody/anywhere who has a cell phone (which is probably a lot of us)! This code tells people who to call if you need help. If you are unable to tell people who to call...ICE will tell them!
It's FREE! It's EASY! If you have a cell phone, you can go to your "Contacts" area and enter the letters ICE before the name of a friend or relative and their telephone number. For Example: ICE JOHN SMITH 555-5555
All emergency personnel know how to check your cell phone to find this number quickly. In case you are unable to talk to the emergency personnel, your ICE friend can give them information about your health history, any medication you may be taking, allergies, or come to the scene of an accident to help out with the newborn baby or older children! (This last sentence should have gotten you!!! By now, you should be running to go get your phone! OK... pregnant ladies or recovering cesarean sections may walk)
With ICE saved as your emergency contact, first responders and medical personnel have 24/7 access to your
critical health information and can alert your loved ones in seconds.
Come on everyone! It will just take a minute! Pick one or two people and make them your ICE. Don't forget to tell these people that they are your ICE. Tell them if you have any medical history or take any routine medication that perhaps they were unaware of. Ask them if they want you to be their "ICE" too!
*Do it for your own well-being. **Do it for your newborn baby or older children. ***Do it for me...Nurse Diane! ****Just DO IT!!! And for all of you who grew up in the '80s... to quote singer Vanilla Ice..."ICE BABY ICE"! Think he was really talking out this kinda ICE? Maybe he was ahead of his time!!

Must haves ! ? ! I have come across an item I want to share with you!

INTERLOCKING FOAM MATS! What a great concept for children of all ages! I have seen these at some of my clients' homes and recently was asked by one of the readers where to get them? So...with some help from a client and while browsing the web...here's the scoop!
Many of these foam mats have been designed, tested and manufactured for children of all ages. Some have been rated "ok" for newborns; others for 3 years of age and up. So from tummy time, through crawling, to young children, these are great cushion areas for playing!
Some come in shapes of puzzles, alphabet, numbers, USA map, and World map. Search "interlocking foam mats" on the internet. The two sites pictured above are www.Kaboodle.com (left) and www.skiphop.com (right). Similar mats have also been spotted at BabysRUs. What a great holiday gift for someone with children or from Santa Claus! :-) |
