Celebrate the Epiphany on Wednesday, Jan. 5

Our Epiphany service and covered-dish supper will be Wednesday, Jan.5 at 6 p.m. in Taliaferro Hall.  Bring a covered dish to share.  To ensure that we have a nice variety of food, please bring a dish from the categories listed based on the first letter or your last name:

A - F:  Starch, Vegetable or Casserole

G - L:  Salad (green, pasta, fruit, etc.)

M - R:  Meat or Meat Casserole

S - Z:  Dessert

At 7 p.m. we will move to the sanctuary for a beautiful candlelit Epiphany service.  If you have any questions, please call the office at 356-5507.

Dean's Forum resumes with 'The Genius of Anglicanism'

 On Jan. 9, the Rev. Canon Robert Askren will launch our winter Dean's Forum series, "The Genius of Anglicanism" with a lecture on "Exploring our Origins; Celtic Christianity." The complete schedule for the series, which continues through March 6, is here.


New Wednesday programs begin Jan. 12
St. John of the Cross

The Center for Prayer and Spirituality is offering a course on St. John of the Cross as part of our Wednesday night Christian formation line-up from Jan. 12-Feb. 9. The class will be led by Patrick Finn-Schultz, a graduate of the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley with a masters in Theology. Also, the Rev. Canon Robert Askren will be teaching a Wednesday night course on "Spiritual Growth and Transformation, beginning Jan. 12, and a new book group is forming to study "God's Secretaries," about the translation of the King James Bible. The book group will be led by Marcia and the Hon. Gerald Tjoflat. Wednesday classes begin at 6:30 p.m., after Wednesday night suppers in Taliaferro Hall. Supper begins at 5:45 p.m. A $5 donation is suggested for dinner. Programs for children and youth are also offered on Wednesday nights. For more information, go to www.jaxcathedral.org.

St. John's Youth News


Pilgrimage 2011! St. John's Youth J2A class (grades 9 and 10) will go to San Francisco summer 2011! We will be holding a student and parent meeting Sunday morning on Sunday, Jan. 9 at 9 a.m. in the coffee shop room. Canon Lorna and Aaron will be hosting the informational meeting for all 9th and 10th grade students and parents.
