Why Nia?
Carol M. Cram
I've tried lots of fitness practices over the years and enjoyed many of them. I've done step aerobics classes, Pilates classes, Yoga classes, Zumba classes, stretch and strength classes - you name it!  I received benefit from all of them but none of them have been able to hold me like Nia has.

I started dancing Nia in the fall of 2008 and I haven't stopped since. Rarely has a week gone by when I haven't taken a class, taught a class, or just danced around my living room to Nia music. I love Nia because it loves me back! The movements are kind on my body and yet allow me to express myself and to get the workout that I want. I don't feel I need to "get anywhere" with Nia. I dance at the level that works for my body in the moment. Sometimes I want to dance slowly and introspectively; at other times I want to really go for it. Nia lets me do whatever feels right.

And yet Nia isn't just about dancing wildly about with my arms in the air (although I like that bit too!). Nia has structure and is built upon a very solid foundation of 13 principles and 52 moves. I know that I can do the same Nia routine many, many times and always find something new because of the hundreds of tools made available to me through the Nia Technique. You can read all about the depth of Nia at www.nianow.com.

Since I first started dancing Nia in the fall of 2008, I've earned three Nia belts - White, Blue, and Green, and now teach twice a week. Nia gives my body the chance to move and express itself in a way that works for me, while also exercising my mind, satisfying my emotions, and freeing my spirit.

I invite you to discover for yourself the joy of moving your body's way!

White Belt Training on Bowen Island
If you've already fallen in love with Nia and want to deepen your practice, consider doing your White Belt training on Bowen Island with Martha Randall from June 9 to 15. Your-week long training will be a life-changing experience! White Belt training is suitable for Every Body and is the first step towards becoming a Nia teacher. Even if you are not interested in teaching, the White Belt experience is a wonderful opportunity for self-expression, self-healing, and, well, attending to self!

Contact Martha Randall to sign up for the White Belt training and contact me at  778 997 9408 or carolcram@gmail.com to book your accommodation/meal package at Bowen Lodge by the Sea.  A shared room (twin beds) costs just $777 (plus HST) for six nights in the Lodge and all your meals. Single room accommodation is also available.
What Students Say
Two of the students that both Deb and I teach in our Nia classes on Bowen Island graciously provided us with testimonials! I included these in my last mailout, but just in case you didn't get to read them, here they are again!

I LOVE my Nia class, mainly because I enjoy the combination of dance with yoga and martial arts, the music is thoughtfully combined to match the movements, the musical scores inspire me and I feel at the end of class,  a sense of freedom, that  I have been stretched,  am fitter, more alive and flexible, being a non gym person I like the way that every muscle seems to get a workout!!! We are blessed to have such talented teachers on the island who guide us in different sequences, I so look forward to my weekly class. Diana Kaile

What I really like about Nia is that it's not about "performance"; it's about indulging in sheer fun, to great music in the company of Nia-friends who generously share their enthusiasm and energy, whatever that mood may be. This is absolutely the best form of exercise for me because, as well as providing a great work-out at multiple levels, a Nia class with Deb or Carol is guaranteed to improve my mood. Over the last 12 years, Nia is pretty much the only fitness regime I have practised regularly. Right now, I run a new business from home and can readily become overly focussed on work. Nia provides essential balance and is an important part of what keeps me sane amidst Bowen craziness. Tamsin Miley
