The Top Three Things From SPIE Defense, Security, and Sensing

OptiPro's Booth at DSS
Dave Mohring, Director of Optical Products at OptiPro, squeezes in some last minute work before day one of DSS.

1. There was a record attendance of over 6,700 people at this year's SPIE Defense, Security and Sensing (DSS) and the number of exhibitors, 540 total, was up 18% from last year! The venue in which DSS was held, the Baltimore Convention Center, easily accommodated the increase in traffic.

2. After talking to a great number of potential and existing customers, many are deciding to dive into the asphere market. Optical manufacturing companies are excited about the potential return on investment that comes with purchasing machines capable of grinding, polishing, and measuring aspheres.

3. Optical component manufacturers and defense contractors displayed impressive technologies utilized for defense and security applications.

OptiPro would like to thank everyone who stopped by our booth last week at the DSS show! We look forward to conversing with you and following-up with our discussions we had. If you have an immediate question or requirement for an optical fabrication solution, don't hesitate to contact us at 585-265-0160 or send emails to dmohring@optipro.com.

Spring 2012 OptiPro U Class
OptiPro U's Spring 2012 Class.

OptiPro held its most recent OptiPro U training course on Advanced Optical Manufacturing from April 16-20 (Click here to check out pictures from OptiPro U). The course was taught by OptiPro's team of experienced engineers and technicians. Topics included CNC spherical grinding and polishing, CNC aspherical grinding and polishing, as well as both contact and non-contact optical metrology. Students put the knowledge learned during lecture to the test by receiving hands-on experience with OptiPro's extensive line of CNC optical fabrication equipment to create their own precision asphere! Take a look at the compliments regarding OptiPro U that we received from students in our most recent class:

"All aspects of the course were excellent. The presentation has plenty of information that is easily understood. The hands on aspect of the class is perfect to demonstrate the techniques."

- Scot Sumner, Cardinal Optics

"This was a great crash course about optics and methods to manufacture and measure them. I learned a lot from the lectures and demos. The course has nothing to do with a sales pitch but everything to do with introducing the technology which I liked very much."

- Jared Beland, United Lens

"OptiPro U was an excellent course, I liked working on the machines. Thank you!"

- Heidi So, FLIR - Freeport, PA

"Staff are very friendly and helpful. The material covered exceeded what I expected walking through the door. The course is very informative and the staff is willing to help. It was not too sales driven and well worth the time and money. Great program!

- Chavaron Apinorasethkul, Universal Photonics

We will be holding another OptiPro U course in the mid-September timeframe (more information regarding our next class is forthcoming). If you have any questions or would like to pre-register for OptiPro U's next class, feel free to contact OptiPro at 585-265-0160 or send emails to pbechtold@optipro.com.
