CNC Systems Inc. a leading supplier of high performance machine tools has introduced the Akari HMC HS-450i 400/500mm Horizontal Machining Center. The HS-450i is the ultimate expandable highly advanced horizontal machining center that is built with the highest level of components available. The HS-450i comes standard with the Fanuc 31i NANO control, 2-400mm pallets an 80 station ATC and 285 PSI TSC. The 26,000 pound machine boasts a maximum workpiece size of 29.5" x 39.4" with large travels of (X 25.2", Y 24", Z 26.8") and a pallet load capacity of 1100 lbs each.  A 15,000 RPM 30 HP Big-Plus® spindle, rugged Tsudakoma® full fourth axis rotary table, high precision THK® roller ways, with axial rapids of 2362 IPM and axis acceleration and deceleration rates of over 1G+ and a .9 second tool changer employ proven technologies ensuring heavy duty cutting and high-speed high-precision machining to get you in and out of the cut fast. Additionally, the HS-450i is capable of running both 400 mm and 500 mm pallets at the same time offering the user even more flexibility for oversized parts and fixtures.

Thermal growth is controlled by the HS-450i thermal control system (TCS) which utilizes a temperature probe mounted in the base casting, a chiller unit that supplies the spindle cartridge, axes bearing and servo motor mounts with a constant flow of temperature controlled oil. Also incorporated in the TCS is an air/oil mist lubrication system that delivers precise pressurized lubrication to the ball screws, roller guide ways and spindle bearings, maintaining cutting accuracies of .0001" and repeatability of .00008".

Flexibility by Expandability allows users to select a suitable APC (Automatic Pallet Changer) as well as an ATC (Automatic Tool Changer) to meet their machine shop requirements today. The Akari HMC HS-450i has the unique ability to be a truly 'on your floor' expandable horizontal machining center that allows the user to start with a 2 pallet 80 tool machine and expand it to a 6 pallet machine with a variety of tool storage capacities (120 and 220 tools as options) to enable long-term unmanned operation or high-efficiency of multi-part, small-lot production runs as well.

The New AccuteX AX-1165 Wire EDM

As seen in Manufacturing News, the AccuteX AX-1165 EDM is a heavy-duty wire machine that weighs in at 18,800 lbs. and can handle a workpiece of nearly half its weight or 9,000 lbs. The machine is equipped with an annealing, fully automatic wire threading system (AWT) with a tip disposal unit. AccuteX's intelligent servo-control wire-threading technology, together with multi-detectors, makes it a fast and reliable (threading at wire break point) automatic wire threading system.

A main standard feature that many customers like is the Windows CE based CNC system. The powerful 64 bit CPU is a high speed, stable, industrial-grade computer, featuring an NC calculation function for high accuracy machining. Comprehensive online help information and user-friendly operational interface presents extra powerful calculation features. Other standard features include machine travels of 43.3" (X) x 25.6" (Y) x 23.6" (Z) x 5.9" (U & V). Rapid Traverse rates are as high as 51.1" per minute with simultaneous wire feedrates of 0-590" per minute using electrode wire diameter ranging from .008 - .013 inches.

"All the operations related to wire handling have been simplified," said a company spokesperson. "The U-V axis mechanism has been placed in the cabinet above the working area for higher reliability in the system. The Z-axis is rigid enough to bear high flushing pressures without any deviation, which will create a straight cut in tall workpieces."
