Product Showcase: SXL and UFF 500 Optical Fabrication Platforms |

The SXL 500 and the UFF 500 machines developed by OptiPro Systems are 5-Axis CNC controlled bridge style optical grinding and polishing platforms. The unique axes configuration provides an accurate and versatile platform for grinding and polishing brittle materials such as glass, ceramics and hardened steels with a base size of 500mm. The straight forward user interface and probing routines provide a tool that opticians and CNC machinists alike can use to generate and polish spherical and aspherical optical surfaces with reduced setup times. The powerful CNC control can accept freeform surface files from CAM programs such as Mastercam, for a full 5-Axis grinding or polishing process. The 5-Axis platform provides a robust deterministic process essential for the fabrication of quality optical surfaces in large work pieces such as windows, domes and mirrors. The OptiPro engineering team has developed a custom SXL/UFF 500 tandem platform for specific NAVAIR grinding and polishing requirements. The 500 size platform entails 3 linear (X,Y,Z) and 2 rotary (B,C) axes. The large platform bridge style machines developed by OptiPro Systems can have X and Y travels up to 3m by 3m and custom rotary axes configurations for specific process requirements. If you would like more information on the SXL 500 or UFF 500 machines or need a custom solution, please contact David Mohring at 585-265-0160 x232. |
 | OptiPro Awarded a Phase I SBIR |
OptiPro was recently awarded a Phase I SBIR on the topic of "Optically Precise Conformal Sensor Window." OptiPro has been the recipient of several SBIR awards since receiving their first Phase 1 SBIR more than a decade ago. Our commitment to transition the technologies developed during the SBIRs to industrial fabrication and metrology equipment helps keep the American optics industry strong and competitive in the precision optics arena.
The ultimate objective of this SBIR is to produce a durable, conformal midwave-infrared-transmitting window with a shape such as a toroid and lateral dimensions of 30 x 30 cm with surface figure accuracy of 1 micron. To achieve this objective, OptiPro will utilize its own platforms (eSX 150 grinding machine, UltraForm Finishing machine and UltraSurf Non-Contact Metrology System) to grind, polish, and measure conformal shapes without rotational symmetry and made of hard materials, preferably spinel. By reaching this objective, future air vehicles will benefit from sensor windows that conform to the shape of the airframe, as these windows could increase the pilot's field of regard and might be used in locations that would not be suitable for flat windows. |
