Chris Roll of OptiPro Earns Best Student Poster Presentation Award at OF&T |
Chris Roll, student of mechanical engineering class of 2012 at the University of Rochester and Research Assistant at OptiPro Systems, was presented the 2010 Optical Fabrication and Testing (OF&T) Best Student Poster Presentation Award by The Optical Society of America. The award was in recognition of outstanding innovation, research excellence and presentation abilities.
Chris made his presentation at OF&T 2010, which took place in Jackson Hole, Wyoming on June 14th. The presentation, titled "Quality testing of diamond-abrasive metal-bond grinding tool materials," discussed how metal-bond tool materials, with a variety of bonds and diamond composites, were characterized mechanically and examined microscopically. The results illustrated the potential use of such testing to track concerns related to quality, consistency, and predictability of these tools.

4th of July OptiPromotion: Save 15% on UltraCURV and UltraBloc! |
To celebrate the 4th of July, OptiPro would like to offer our customers the chance to save on the UltraCURV and recently-introduced UltraBloc! Purchase before August 4th and receive 15% off the list price!
- UltraCURV: Normally $13,500 - 15% ($2,025) = NOW $11,475!
- UltraBloc: Normally $6,850 - 15% ($1,027.50) = NOW $5,822.50!
The UltraCURV (Computerized Universal Radius Verifier) measures spherical components between 5mm and 200mm in diameter. Our easy to use electronic spherometer displays radius, sag and fringe data. The measurement data can be directly exported to an Excel or CSV file for SPC analysis. UltraCURV comes complete with a netbook computer (mini-laptop), software and manual pre-installed. 5mm, 10mm, 15mm small diameter ring cups and Hemi-dome adapter are also included.
The UltraBloc is an offline portable table-top device which will dramatically reduce setup times when precision blocking is required for optics manufacturing. It allows for precision alignment when using an adhesive between your optics and blocking body. The UltraBloc incorporates 0 to 20 rpm motorized precision bearing spindle, which can be activated via a foot switch or with a manual switch for continuous rotation. Horizontally mounted calipers and/or dial indicators assist in precise and repeatable alignment of lenses. The electronics and spindle assembly are totally enclosed, this unique configuration is actively air cooled to dissipate heat from pitch or wax blocking more efficiently.
Remember, this offer only lasts until August 4th, so contact OptiPro today to take advantage of this exciting offer! Call (585) 265-0160 or send emails to dmohring@optipro.com to place an order. |

The webcast is available On-Demand 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Just click on the link below to register and watch!
Some of the topics covered in the webcast include:
-
What is an asphere?
- The benefits of aspheres
- The evolution of asphere manufacturing
- How volume and material dictate what manufacturing process to use
- Contour Deterministic Micro Grinding (CDMG)
- Sub-Aperture Polishing
- Metrology
- The Future of Asphere Fabrication
The webcast runs a little over an hour in length. If your company deals with aspheres in any way, you will find this webcast to be very interesting.
OptiPro would like to thank Laser Focus World for giving us the opportunity to host the Asphere Fabrication webcast. We hope you enjoy it! |
