Recognition of our Efforts
In November, Heritage Conservancy received the Heritage Partnership Award from the Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor at its annual Partnership Recognition Dinner. This award is given to a "group, person, organization or activity that has demonstrated excellence in historic preservation, restoration, conservation or interpretation for efforts focusing on canals, railroads, or drives connecting corridor communities."
Heritage Conservancy has collaborated with many partners on a variety of projects since the Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor was established in the 1980s. These projects include land conservation in the Bushkill and Cooks Creek watersheds, resource protection and education activities at Bristol Marsh, scenic byway efforts associated with the D&L Drive, Delaware Canal daylighting studies in Bristol Borough, and historic preservation guidelines and streetscape design work for Canal Town communities in Carbon
and Luzerne Counties.

In addition, Heritage Conservancy provides technical support for small-scale planning and design projects as part of its Municipal Assistance for Conservation Program offered through the Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor. The Conservancy was also honored with a proclamation from the Senate of Pennsylvania through the efforts of Senator Chuck McIlhinney, and a Certificate of Special Recognition from U.S. Representative Charles W. Dent.

Heritage Conservancy's Most Successful Gala to Date!
Heritage Conservancy's annual Christmas for Aldie fundraiser gala took place on Sunday, December 4th, at Aldie Mansion in Doylestown, PA. Over 200 guests were in attendance at this most successful fundraiser gala to date! The Conservancy raised approximately $60,000, which will benefit the organization's preservation mission and assist with the upkeep and ongoing renovations of historic Aldie Mansion.
Guests were invited to contribute towards our mission of preserving open spaces and historic places, whereupon they received these uniquely decorated gift boxes. Photo credit: Genuardi Photography
Attendees enjoyed champagne and an open bar, passed hors d'oeuvres and a delicious entrée provided by Max Hanson catering. Central Bucks South High School Choir performed Christmas carol favorites during dessert and after the meal in the mansion's Great Hall.

Converting a Detention Basin... Naturally, of course!
On November 17th, Heritage Conservancy's Senior Planner, Susan Myerov, was invited to attend a meeting of the Richland Court Homeowners Association Board to give a presentation on the benefits of naturalizing one of the community's stormwater detention basins. She had previously visited the community to review five of their detention basins for a possible selection of a demonstration site.
At the meeting, Susan provided a brief overview of stormwater management impacts on water quality and quantity, explained the issues associated with older stormwater basins and reviewed the various benefits and costs of converting a conventional basin to one with native plants.
The water basin at Aldie Mansion was converted from lawn to native wildflowers and grasses earlier this year.
If you live in a community with dry basins and are interested in more information, please contact Susan at 215-345-7020, x101.
