Dorothy Nafus Morrison
We are sad to announce the recent passing of Dorothy Nafus Morrison. Mrs. Morrison was an author, philanthropist and widow of Morrison Child and Family Services founding Director Dr. Carl Morrison.
After Dr. Morrison's death in 1980, Mrs. Morrison remained a friend and supporter of Morrison Child and Family Services. She was present at the 50th and 60th Anniversary celebrations for our organization and continued attending Morrison events until very recently. We are honored that in lieu of flowers Mrs. Morrison's family has asked that remembrances be made to Morrison Child and Family Services. For more information about Mrs. Morrison or to make a gift in her memory, please click here.
Due to popular demand, additional seats have been added to our dinner at Genoa with Anne Amie Vineyards on Wednesday, April 13! Read more about this spectacular pairing in our most recent Special Events newsletter here.
Awarded Grants
Thank You!
We are thrilled to announce that wewere recently awarded grants from The Pacific Power Foundation and The Employees Community Fund of Boeing Portland.
The Pacific Power Foundation recently gave Morrison $5000 for
the Parent Mentor Program. This funding will cover program costs for four additional families. The Parent Mentor Program is an innovative peer-to-peer mentoring program in which at-risk parents are matched with a Parent Mentor who has successfully faced similar issues of substance abuse. Mentors help parents to stay on track with their recovery, work through the child welfare system, learn positive parenting skills, build self-esteem, and ultimately return to parenting clean and sober.
The Employees Community Fund of Boeing Portland awarded Morrison $5000 for
Hand in Hand classroom and treatment room renovations. In order to continue to provide quality services, these funds will be used toward sound insulation in treatment rooms to maintain privacy. We will also be removing old asbestos tile, re-carpeting, and installing new lights to create a healthier environment that is more conducive to learning and effective therapy for the clients at Hand in Hand.
Visit our Volunteer Opportunities Web page to learn about volunteering at Morrison. With over 10 different sites and over 20 different programs we have opportunities for just about everyone. Morrison also has one-day opportunities for large groups. Email volunteer@morrisonkids.org with any questions.
