New Volunteer E-Newsletter!
Welcome to the first United Way volunteer e-newsletter! You have received this e-mail because you are currently signed-up on CorridorVolunteers or you are involved with volunteerism in our community. The purpose of this e-newsletter is to inform you on a quarterly basis about what is going on in the community in the area of volunteerism, and connect you to volunteer opportunities or interested volunteers. We will feature agencies and their current volunteer opportunities, as well as, volunteers making a difference in the community. We will also share information that is reported to us from the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service. Feel free to contact me with any questions or ideas on things to include in future e-newsletters, sdriscoll@uweci.org. Corridor Volunteers
Celebrates 3rd Anniversary
Corridor Volunteers, an online matching service for volunteer opportunities, will celebrate its three-year anniversary on November 30. Nonprofit agencies can register on the site and create a volunteer opportunity listing to recruit volunteers to match their needs. Volunteers can visit the site to find local, regional and statewide links to volunteer opportunities. In the Cedar Rapids area alone there are over 55 agencies using Corridor Volunteers, with hundreds of volunteer opportunities. Visit www.corridorvolunteers.org to learn more.

Other resources available on Corridor Volunteers include "Board Connections" - a great resource to list nonprofit board and committee positions that need to be filled, and "Product Connections" - a place to list things a nonprofit organization needs. Volunteers can also sign-up to help in the event of a disaster.

Corridor Volunteers is managed by United Way of East Central Iowa and sponsored by Rockwell Collins. For questions or more information, please contact Sue Driscoll at (319) 398-5372, ext. 22 or sdriscoll@uweci.org.

Corridor Volunteers Leads to Great Volunteer Experience
Brian Wilson, a systems engineer at Rockwell Collins, found himself overwhelmed with the task of finding a volunteer opportunity. He was introduced to Corridor Volunteers while participating in a United Way meeting at work, and after registering as a volunteer on the website, found that Corridor Volunteers was easy to maneuver and had a wide variety of opportunities.

The opportunity that caught Brian's attention was with Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS). With the click of a button, Brian was able to express his interest in the program and was contacted by a match specialist from BBBS. Shortly thereafter, Brian was matched with a little brother.

Brian enjoys volunteering with BBBS and feels good about giving back to his community. Brian and his little brother meet to work on homework, go to the park, and look forward to visiting the YMCA. As a way to make sure he is keeping his volunteer commitment, Brian logs his volunteer hours on Corridor Volunteers. "Corridor Volunteers was the starting point to a great volunteer experience for me," said Brian. "I would definitely recommend the website, www.corridorvolunteers.org, to anyone who wants to volunteer."
