Zhou Long, UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance research professor of music composition, received a 2011 Pulitzer Prize for his opera "Madame White Snake," which premiered in Feb. 2010 at the Cutler Majestic Theatre in Boston. Read more

UMKC School of Education receives one of largest gifts in school's history to create Urban Education Research Center
The gift from Marny and John Sherman -- longtime and passionate supporters of urban education in Kansas City -- will fund an endowed chair and startup costs for the center, which will focus on improving conditions in urban schools. Read more


Sprint Foundation awards $1 million to UMKC School of Education
A $1 million grant from the Sprint Foundation will fund an endowed professorship for the upcoming Urban Education Research Center at the School of Education. The center will address national challenges in urban education. Read more

UMKC awards Kansas City Symphony Music Director Michael Stern with honorary doctorate degree

Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist got start at UMKC
Mike Keefe, winner of this year's Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning, spent time as a math instructor at UMKC, where he also worked on a doctoral degree and cartooned for the school's student newspaper, The University News. Read more

UMKC gets funding to boost outreach to the disabled
UMKC's Institute for Human Development, which offers a number of programs that assist the disabled, recently received a $625,000, two-year grant for Add Us In, a program from the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy. Read more

NIH awards $1.46 million to fund Children's Mercy-Truman-UMKC Center for Neonatal Research
