Highlights from "Day of Prayer Over Students Across Alabama"

Day of Prayer

On Friday, March 25, thousands of Alabamians took time to pray for students, teachers, school administrators and schools encouraged by Governor Dr. Robert Bentley's proclamation: "Day of Prayer Over Students Across Alabama." Adults were involved with public prayer events to show students in Alabama their prayerful support. Local churches held 24-hour prayer vigils and passed out prayer guides with specific things to pray about. Prayer walks were held around local schools. And, some parents attended First Priority Club Meetings to pray over students.

First Priority Area Director James Cato says, "The response was incredible, and the passion for prayer was felt by so many. Local schools rallied teachers and students together and they spent the morning praying for each other."

James said before school, more than 100 Crumly Chapel Elementary Students gathered to pray for their teachers. James says, "You could feel the passion as students prayed and it was a moving time for the whole school. The Alabama state Day of Prayer Over Students has made a lasting impact on many students."

First Priority Area Director Debi DeBoer said Day of Prayer Over Students was a little different this year at Oak Mountain Middle School. "We wanted the students to experience a prayer vigil where each four corners of the room was designated a different element of prayer," said Debi. "Students were excited to try something new." Debi said students prayed for each other in one station, they were blessed with scripture proclaimed over them at the next station, parents and First Priority campus coaches prayed over them at the next station and at the last station students prayed for a lost friend by name that doesn't know the Lord. "It was a great way to involve everyone in the prayer journey instead of just a few praying, while the others listened," said Debi.

We would like to give a special thanks to our friends at 93.7 WDJC Radio for continuous coverage on Day of Prayer. We would like to thank them for giving students and adults the opportunity to call the station to voice their prayers for Alabama students, teachers and school administrators. We would also like to thank the T.V. and radio stations, local newspapers, churches, and concerned parents and adults who helped us create awareness about this special day.

Students need our prayers every day. Please do your part and pray over students and encourage them to be bold and share the message of Jesus Christ with other students.
