Moore Farms
Orders This Week

Welcome to our new Atlanta locations: both Harry's Farmers Market in Marietta and One River Place started this week with a terrific array of delicious local foods!  We had a great week with everything running so smoothly it was a little spooky. Maybe we're in a good groove now and this will be the way the rest of the Summer goes!

Mixed Roots This Week

We always get some questions about what each root is in the boxes. Our Mixed Root Vegetables change with the seasons but they are always terrific especially when you prepare them with one of our favorite recipes. This week's Roots may include: Potatoes; Baby White Turnips; Beets; and /or Kohlrabi (OK technically not a root but they get along really well with them!). Remember, almost any root vegetable can be enjoyed the way you would carrots (raw or cooked) with the exception maybe of Beets, that might get a little rough! Radishes especially are wonderful cooked, literally in any recipe where you would use a carrot! A lot of the time you will see new and different varieties of fruits and vegetables from local farms, that's one of the fun things about what we do. This week everyone got the pointy Arrowhead Cabbage (an heirloom variety) and some folks got different looking veggies like the striped Beans and round yellow Zucchini shown in the Farmers Pick pic below!: )

BE A WWOOFer FOR A WEEKEND!
We have scheduled our next Farm Work Weekend for June 8th - 10th. If you are interested in coming out to lend a hand planting, weeding, etc. here on the farm let us know! We'll have a great time whether it's for a day or the whole weekend: we have limited beds available so campers are encouraged.  Farmhouse meals and bonfires will be the entertainment for a memorable visit!

We are very proud to bring our farmer's foods to your family and we  always want to know what you think about what we do. Send us your recipes, pictures and stories and thank you for your support!

Foster Mama Chicken

Now this is one good Mama Chicken.
She is taking care of the nine chicks another Mama Hen hatched along with her own three. Now, we had another little bitty baby chick that hatched and it's Mama did not want to take care of it: I hoped the Foster Mama Chicken would take in one more and she has! She is now brooding 13 baby chicks. That's the newest little black one standing in front of the waterer.
Weekly Recipe
Veggie Veggie Salad
with Homemade Buttermilk Ranch Dressing

This is really more about a salad-making technique since you can use just about any kind of vegetable. . . but it sure is tasty and a favorite of ours especially when you want to show off a lot of different veggies (or if you have picky veggie eaters!).

1. Prepare 2 cups Orzo or Rice

2. Wash trim and Lettuce for salad

3. Wash, trim and chop into ½" (small) dice:

  • 1/2 Vidalia Onion
  • 3 Carrots
  • 1/4 pound Snap Beans
  • 1 Summer Squash
  • 1 bunch Radishes

Mix vegetables with warm Orzo or Rice and chill for one hour. The residual heat will just make the veggies a little soft, not cooked. 15-20 minutes before serving mix in the Buttermilk Ranch Dressing so that th flavors get all happy. Serve the salad on top of prepared Lettuce.

Homemade Buttermilk Ranch Dressing

Blend in blender until smooth:

1/4 cup Buttermilk

1 Tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar

3 Tablespoons Mayonnaise

2T finely chopped fresh Garlic Chives

1T Herbs de Provence

1 teaspoon Salt

2 teaspoons Pepper

Add another ¾ cup Buttermilk to blended mixture, chill for 30 minutes before using.
