The Eleven Twelve Project

Volume #17
January 2010

Greetings!
Near the end of 2009, I came to a deep realization that subscribers to this newsletter were supporters of our ministry, much the same as financial donors or prayer partners.  Money and prayer had been the ways I pictured people supporting us, but I realized that 'support' is merely the vehicle enabling us to serve the church.

Therefore, anyone's interest in Share the Savior that affords us the opportunity to minister (and that certainly includes you) is a supporter of our work.  With that in mind, thank you for your support!

To further show our gratitude, we've started the practice of offering a free gift at Christmas.  We hope it will properly show our appreciation, plus enable you to more effectively communicate your faith to a loved one who needs the Savior.

Drama on Craigslist - Part II
In the last issue, I started a story of someone who didn't care much for Jesus or my attempts at evangelism (read the full story).  In fact, I learned exactly where they stood, when they told me...
"Jesus is a myth, just like the Easter Bunny.  Please stop posting your crap on Craigslist, you're not getting my money."
Other than their name, I didn't know much more about this person, than you know now, and I had to determine how or if to respond.  That's not easy.

I'll tell you more about the story, including how it ended, in future issues of the Eleven Twelve Project.  Until then, I want to hear from you.  What do you think would have been a good way to respond to them?

X-treme Power
Your friends have many great needs if they have not received the promise of heaven through faith in Christ, and you won't be able to meet even one of them.  You're going to have to rely on someone else to help...God.

They need to want him: God alone can draw them.

They need to recognize their sin: God makes it clear.

They need unshakeable faith: God gives total certainty.

They need to be reborn: God can give them new life.

They need a new character: God does Extreme Makeovers.

They need eternal life: God holds them personally.

They need real peace: God gives faith; peace follows.

They need lasting hope: God is the source of hope.

We do not have to be strong and persuasive Christians, full of wisdom and perfect in character, to get our friends to heaven.  We just need to know where to look for the power necessary to bring spiritual life to the dead.  We will find that power in God!

International Students Inc.
ISI volunteers and staff seek friendships with international students attending U.S. colleges and universities.  As friends, they have opportunities to involve their students in American culture, help them with problems needing a native speaker, find an American Christian mentor in their academic discipline, and (if interested) move them toward a saving relationship with Christ.

Partnering with International Students Inc. can open up opportunities to love your neighbor and communicate the hope we have in Christ.  That in itself could greatly increase your evangelistic outreach efforts.  But wait, there's more.

Because they work with students from around the world, ISI has gained a tremendous amount of knowledge and wisdom about the cultures of various countries, including their religions.  Much of it is available for free online.

Are you friends with someone from Hong Kong, Pakistan, India, Indonesia, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand  or the People's Republic of China?  Check out ISI's free Country Profiles.

Have questions about Animism, Judaism, Buddhism, Marxism, Hinduism, Secularism, Shinto, Islam or want an overview of World Religions, ISI's free Religion Profiles may be just what you need.

Perhaps God is offering you a hand up the mountain of service through the ministry of International Students Inc.  If so, reach out and hold on.

What Tools do I Need?
If you're fixing a sink, you either know which tools you'll need or you don't.  If it's the latter, you can do some research or ask someone for help.  But what about the tools necessary for sharing the gospel?

In case your evangelism tool box is a little empty, we thought we'd pass on some helpful implements that we think you should consider stocking.
  1. Prayer - Get on Your Knees: God has not given you the ability to bring anyone to salvation without His help, and prayer is a great place to start.  In fact, there may be no better place to begin than at the throne of grace.
  2. Power - Use Scripture: The same power that God used to raise Jesus from the dead lives and breathes in the words of the gospel.  You may have great debating skills or be highly persuasive but faith comes through hearing the Scriptures that testify about our Savior.
  3. Possibilities - Open Your Heart: God is not locked into one particular way of drawing people toward Christ.  Learn how your friend thinks and what they like, and utilize a method of sharing that fits them.  There is only one message but it can be delivered in many ways.
We went to the Tool Idea Store (aka the Internet) to see what might be helpful for delivering the message of salvation.  Here are a few we found.
Do you have a favorite tool that you use when sharing the Good News?  If so, we'd love to hear it.  Who knows, we might even want to use it the next time we get the privilege of sharing God's plan of redemption.

March 4-6 - Castro Valley, CA
This year's BASS Church Workers Convention has the same goal as every one since 1963: to equip, train, and encourage those who serve in the local churches of the San Francisco Bay Area.

There are dozens of workshops in twenty different tracks.  To view all the tracks and workshops, click on the appropriate link below.

Share the Savior is privileged to present two workshops at BASS 2010 in the Evangelism and Outreach Track.
  1. Christianese: Communicating Confusion
  2. Love, The Misplaced Motive for Evangelism

For information about other upcoming conferences, visit the Events page of Share the Savior.

I think the closing of each newsletter is my favorite section.  I'm so often reminded when I reach this point, of how little my effort to write it has meant on its own.  Since it's impossible for me to determine what you need to move toward greater evangelistic effectiveness, let alone get you moving in that direction, I can only share what I think God wants me to share, and hope He does something with it.

And really, that's what I've 'preached' in this newsletter when it comes to our personal evangelism efforts.  You and I are to share what God has given us to share, the message of redemption through faith in His Son, and then we stand back and watch His power at work.

That's how it should be.  It keeps you and I humble and serves to bring glory to our God!

Sincerely,

Scott McIntyre
