LOWER SCHOOL
Dear Lower School Families,
We hope everyone had a wonderful summer. It has been a very busy summer of improving our campus and we are so looking forward to sharing it with you. The energy and enthusiasm our students bring to campus is palpable and missed during the summer months. While you may be sad to see summer end, we are ecstatic to have you back!
This year we are welcoming 97 new students to the Lower School family, and six new faculty members! We are very excited to welcome all of our new families on campus and look forward to seeing many of you on Tuesday, August 14 for our New Family Orientation and Meet the Teacher event. We are also looking forward to sharing with you the opening of the new science lab, expansion of the playground, and refurbished Knowledge Center.
The First Day of School is Wednesday, August 15. This means all Lower School students will need to be in formal dress attire. If you have questions regarding the student dress code, please refer to the Student-Parent Handbook.
We have new school hours this year! Our school day will start with students arriving between 8:10-8:25 a.m. Class begins at 8:30 a.m. Dismissal for students in PreK3-K will be at 3:15 p.m., and students in grades 1-5 will be dismissed at 3:30 p.m. The first day of school will be an early release day. (PreK3-K dismiss at 2:30 p.m., Gr. 1-5 dismiss at 2:45 p.m.)
The safety and well being of our students is our first priority. We ask that all parents refrain from using cell phones during drop-off and pick-up times. Students must be dropped off at the designated grade level locations that are fully supervised by faculty. We ask that students exit from the left side of the car for their safety and the safety of our faculty. Questions about drop-off and pick-up will be addressed during our Meet the Teacher event.
Class placement letters were sent home Monday, August 6. If you did not receive your letter, please call Maria Oliveira. (407-905-7737 opt.1) She will be happy to help you. We spend a great deal of time and put much thought into the creation of our class lists. Each student is considered individually, and we work hard to establish classroom environments that will allow each child to reach his/her fullest potential. Due to the delicate balance of each classroom, we cannot honor requests for class assignment changes. We are confident that all of our students will have a wonderful year!
New Course Offering for Fourth Graders We are thrilled to extend the violin program into the fourth grade this year. New course selection sheets will be sent home the first week of school for those who would like to choose violin as their music elective. If you did not send in your child's course selection sheet last spring, or perhaps you just joined us this summer, don't worry! All students in fourth and fifth grade will receive a new course selection sheet to confirm the choice for their music elective for this year.
A Reminder from Mrs. Schwartz, our School Nurse All immunization forms must be up to date before the start of school. Students whose immunizations are not up to date will not be allowed to attend school until such time.
As always, we look forward to working in partnership with you to assure your child's academic success. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us. We are looking forward to a great year!
Sincerely,
Melissa Fagan

 MIDDLE SCHOOL
Dear Middle School Families,
In just a week, we'll welcome you to the WPS campus for the 2012-2013 school year! The campus has been abuzz with new construction and preparations, but it's quite empty without you, our families. By now, you've received, and hopefully, reviewed, a plethora of information sent in our electronic summer mailing. A few reminders...
We hope to see all the students at the Summer Social on Monday, August 13, in the dining hall. Review the invite for details. This is a long-standing middle school tradition, bringing everyone together for a casual evening as we say farewell to summer. Students will meet your teachers, get to know your classmates, and receive your homeroom and locker assignments. Additionally, parents are invited for a social of your own in room 101, hosted by WPVA.
New Families, please arrive to campus at 4:00 p.m. on August 13 for New Family Orientation. This is a great opportunity to familiarize yourself with the middle school faculty, our SGA ambassadors, and the campus.
Your First Day of School, August 16, serves as a student orientation day. We'll get you set up with your lockers, books, laptops; and, we'll review policies and procedures. Please come prepared with your backpacks, laptops, and supplies. If possible, we request that you bring your signed forms: Honor Code agreement, Locker Policy, and Field trip Permission. You'll receive your class schedule, which you'll follow beginning Monday, August 20.
Finally, look forward to Middle School Mania, our team-building event on Friday, August 17. Just come prepared in your WPS physical education uniform, along with water to stay hydrated throughout the day. It's sure to be a fun-filled day, (complete with a cookout!) building our middle school culture of camaraderie and unitas.
See you soon!

LEAP News LEAP begins for all ages on the first day of school. We offer care for ages PK4 through 5th grade. Care is from the dismissal time for your child until 6:00 p.m. For details click here. If your child will EVER use LEAP, even on a very occasional basis, please complete this Enrollment Form. This form can be sent in to the office, dropped by at your convenience, or brought in on the first day of school to your classroom teacher. We must, however, have the form on file for the student to participate in LEAP. In the event of an emergency we will, of course, accommodate a family's needs. Morning FLEX
This year, the FLEX program will occur in the morning due to the change in drop off times for students. Any family with students in both Lower School and Middle/High School are eligible for free care in the morning from 7:30 a.m. until the instructors escort the students to their lower school classrooms around 8:15 a.m.. For families that need this service, but do not have an older sibling, the price is $10 per day or $40 per full 5-day week use. These fees, just like LEAP, will be billed to your account on a monthly basis. For more information on the Morning FLEX program, please click here. Drop-off for Morning FLEX begins promptly at 7:30 a.m. We are unable to accommodate an earlier drop-off time, so please plan accordingly. Morning FLEX will be conducted in the main dining hall, as it has in the past. Students will be supervised, have activities and games, work time, and fun! We hope this service is beneficial to our families with multiple aged students in the school. Community School
The Fall session of the Community School will begin just after Labor Day. The schedule will be published electronically during the first full week of classes with registration occurring then as well. All information for these classes will be available at that time.
