. Dear Loyal Alpen Schatz Customer |

Oktoberfest is upon us!
'Tis the season for German Beer and Bretzn lovers around the world to don their finest Alpine attire and attend their local Oktoberfest for a day or weekend of Alpine cheer.
Did you know that Oktoberfest originated in Munich Germany as the wedding celebration of Crown Prince Ludwig, later to become King Ludwig I, when he was married to Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen on 12th October 1810? The citizens of Munich were invited to attend the festivities held on the fields in front of the city gates to celebrate the happy royal event. The fields have been named Theresienwiese ("Theresa's meadow") in honor of the Crown Princess ever since, although the locals have since abbreviated the name simply to the "Wies'n". The party was so grand that it was repeated each year thereafter and eventually grew into a three week long event. The Munich Oktoberfest has become the world's largest fair, with more than 5 million people attending every year.
The Oktoberfest mania has spread around the world and Reuter's just published an article naming the top ten biggest Oktoberfests outside of Germany, from Hong Kong to Brazil. Well worth a read. Click HERE to see the article.
Live in Colorado? Come on down to Grand Junction this weekend to visit the largest Oktoberfest on the Western Slope! Alpen Schatz, as one of its sponsors, will have a festive booth and we will all be decked out in our Alpine attire and be selling Alpine gear, from cool German Hats, to Dirndls and Lederhosen! Festivities (including German beer, wine, brats and music) begin at 10am and will go to 10pm. Date: Saturday, 1 October, 2011. To see a glimpse of last year's event, click HERE.
Hope to see you this weekend or hope you can attend the Oktoberfest in the area
near you!
