President's Message
On Christmas Day America was attacked when a Terrorist aboard a U.S. airline tried to explode a bomb. This man is being treated like any other criminal and not a terrorist.
This Concerns me!
When asked to accept the Nobel Peace Prize President Obama did not say "NO, I have done nothing to earn this award;" instead, he accepted the award.
This Concerns me!
This is the year to turn our concern into action. 2010 is the year for the Republican team to take back what the Democrats have stolen.
In some ways it is like a football game. The first half is over and it is time to suit up and tackle the opposition, we need to be a second half team. What ever it takes to put them on the ground.
It's time to grab the ball and run for the touchdown. We need to be at every position possible; blockers, catchers, coaches, media, writers, sportscasters and we especially need a great defense to take that ball away.
Your leadership Team: Barbara Goergen, Emily Pataki, Donna Parker, Karen Adair-Murphy, Cindi McIntyre, Holly Hansen, Amy Ellsworth, Debbie Simmons, Tillie Pope, Vivian Wood and Judy Hobbs are excited and ready for action.
2010 is an extremely important year. We have a Governor's race, Congressional, Senate, State Representative and many other important races. We all have a lot of work ahead for the coming year.
It is humbling and also a privilege to serve you in the coming year. Thank you so much for your vote of confidence.
Wishing you and your family a Happy and Safe New Year.
-Barbara Goergen, WCRW President

This seat is currently held by Democrat Diana Maldonado, so it is critical that we get behind our Republican candidates to ensure a Republican victory in the 2010 general election. *If you are interested in submitting questions to be considered for use during the forum, please email Emily Pataki at emmyled@gmail.com. Please note, the moderator has final say over which questions will be asked during the forum.

Legislative Update
By Holly Hansen, Legislative Chair FEDERAL: In a last-minute Christmas Eve vote, the Senate passed a version of Obamacare, 60-38. This does not mean, however, that the process is complete. The two chambers of Congress must agree on a compromise version, but Pro-life House Democrats oppose the abortion funding in the Senate version, and 'moderate' Senate Democrats oppose the Public Option of the House version. The possible gridlock on a compromise bill gives us time to make it very clear to Congress that we oppose either version.
The Senate version doesn't even pretend to treat all Americans equally, since Senate Majority Leader Reid included special sweetheart deals for the states of Nebraska and Louisiana in order to entice senators from those states to comply. Also, in order to allegedly provide insurance to 15% of Americans,
*These bills cost between $871 billion and $1.05 trillion.
*Both bills depend on massive tax increases.
*Both bills include a possibly un-Constitutional individual mandate.
*Both versions will do nothing to contain costs, and will increase premiums for most families.
These provisions are only the tip of the iceberg, so it is imperative that we "Citizen Lobbyists" continue to make our voices heard. Assuming you have already assured Congressman Carter and Senators Hutchison and Cornyn that you oppose socialized medicine, please make sure you continue to openly discuss reform problems, and consider taking time to write a letter to the editor.
LOCAL: The Primary campaign season has officially begun! Primary Election Day is March 2, and Early voting is Feb. 16-26. In order to participate in the Primary, you MUST be registered to vote by February 1, 2010! If you are not yet registered, we will have registration cards at the January 11 meeting. We will also provide a list of Primary candidates at that time. Get registered, get informed, and VOTE!

Help Needed
Our club is only as good as the outstanding women who lend their time and talents to ensuring that we are a powerful political organization. We appreciate those members who are currently and who have previously worked tirelessly on behalf of WCRW and Republicans. That being said, we still have some openings for 2010. Please consider volunteering your time and talents to one of the below positions. Our club is experiencing incredible growth, and we need additional women to help meet our club's growing needs. If you are interested in volunteering for one of the positions, please contact Barbara Goergen at goergenb@aol.com or 512-517-8683. Thanks in advance!
Fundraising Chair
Work with a committee to organize the fundraising events throughout the year.
Literacy Chair
Work to promote literacy through the annual dictionary project and other book donation projects throughout the year.
Awards Chair
Keep track of club activites which allow WCRW to win awards and gain recognition with the Texas Federation of Republican Women.
Jewelry Sales
Be responsible for selling jewelry at club meetings each month. Also help choose and purchase items to sell.
Hospitality/Social Committee Members
Tillie Pope is Chair of this committee, and needs help greeting guests and setting up for the meetings. The growth of our club has created a need for more members on this committee - a good problem to have!
Graphic Designer
The Technology Chair, Debbie Simmons, and the Public Relations Chair, Amy Ellsworth, are looking for a graphic designer to help design some collateral pieces for the club. If you have experience in this area, please consider helping with this project. | |
