President's Message
As I enter my final month as WCRW President, I am both pleased by our past success and excited about our future! At the Biennial Convention of the Texas Federation of Republican Women, we won awards for Membership in 2008 and 2009, the 'Most Improved Newsletter' award, and the John Goodwin Tower Award for Excellence. Our club has been growing by leaps and bounds, and in November, WCRW members elected a talented new leadership team in Barbara Goergen, Emily Pataki, Donna Parker, Karen Adair-Murphy, and Cindi McIntyre.

It is also encouraging that the hegemony of the Democrat party seems to be crumbling; In November, Republicans won the Governor's race not only in Virginia, but in 'dark blue' New Jersey. The 'Climate-gate' scandal has revealed mass fraud among the global-warming-hysteria crowd and has thus dimmed hopes for 'Cap and Trade' legislation. While the Democrats seem to be on a suicide mission to pass government-controlled healthcare reform, approval numbers for the President and Congress have fallen to 48 and 26% respectively. Locally, Democrats who ran as moderates now have a legislative record to defend and are vulnerable to Republican challengers.

While the time is ripe for a Conservative resurgence, I will not assume that 'other folks' will make it happen. WCRW members have done a great job this year lobbying at both the state and national levels, but in 2010 we will need to add voter registration and election activities to our efforts. I am looking forward to serving on the board as the Immediate Past President and Legislative Committee Chair, and it is my hope that each one of you will use your time and talents to become a dynamic part of a new Republican majority.
Holly Hansen
2008-2009 President

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
President Obama and Congressional Democrats are hoping that you will be too distracted by the Holidays to make much fuss.  The session continues, however, and we must continue to respond to legislation that is bad for America.  Here are two items we need to follow:

Healthcare:
After the House passed the Pelosi version of government-controlled healthcare, the Senate began work on an even more egregious bill containing a whopping 2,074 pages of mischief.  This bill increases taxes, forces taxpayers to fund abortions, covers illegal immigrants, and establishes government control of private healthcare.  This bill is not good for America, and we must continue to work together to stop it.

Senate Majority Leader Reid needs 60 votes to pass this monstrosity, but faces trouble from pro-life and anti-Public Option Democrats.  Last weekend President Obama put pressure on these Democrats and wobbly Republican Olympia Snowe.  On our part, we must continue point out to friends, family, media, etc., that it is not 'Obamacare or Status Quo,' but that America needs common-sense reform, not government-run healthcare.  Please continue to contact Senate members, and encourage family and friends in other states to do the same!

Cap and 'Tax'
The Global Warming Hysteria crowd is reeling from the revelation that scientists at the East Anglia Climate Research Unit not only hid and destroyed data, but intentionally manipulated computer programming to make results fit theory.  Suddenly, the Leftist claims of scientific 'evidence' and 'consensus' are suspect at best, and the political ramifications favor a return to common sense.  The Australian Senate has defeated 'Cap and Trade' legislation, and the Climategate scandal will certainly dampen hopes for the U.S. version, which passed the House last June and was scheduled for Senate debate in the Spring.  Furthermore, Senator Inhofe (R-Oklahoma) is calling for investigation of a possible conspiracy amongst scientists who receive taxpayer funds.  President Obama and the Democrats are trying to downplay the scandal, but Conservatives should continue to publicize these documents and educate voters about the truth.

A great source on Senate activity is the GOP Senate website: http://www.gop.gov/.

COMMITTEE NEWS
Membership-Donna Parker
We are excited to announce that Membership for 2009 now stands at 109 regular members and 50 associate members! In January, we will announce the winner of the 2009 Membership Recruitment Award, who will win a paid WCRW membership for 2010.  Our BIG GOAL for 2010  is 200 regular members and 100 associate members; This can be done if we all "reach out and touch someone". If each one of us brings just one new member into WCRW, we have met our goal. This is an ELECTION YEAR, and people want to get involved, so invite someone! We have a fabulous line-up of speakers for 2010 and it will be an exciting year!
Watch for details on our next "New Member Orientation" in January - details will be coming soon for another fun event!

Please turn in your Volunteer Hours!  Did you know that WCRW can win awards by reporting the number of hours we volunteer?  Please track any time you spend calling or writing legislators, writing letters to the editor, working at party headquarters, etc.  I will have reporting forms at the meeting, and remember, most people under-report their hours!  Forms may also be downloaded.

TFRW Convention Wrap-Up2009BoardwithLibbyPataki
We had a fantastic time at the Texas Federation of Republican Women convention held in Galveston November 13-15. The weekend included informative programs, incredible speakers, awards, a banquet and gala, a very moving memorial breakfast, numer
ous vendor booths, campaign management school and the  company of nearly 1,000 Republican women.
"A Wave of Inspiration" was the theme of the weekend - and that's exactly what happened; we left the convention inspired by what we, a
s Republican women, can accomplish in 2010.
The convention workshops were extremely valuable: empowering the grassroots to communicate with legislators; how to expand the GOP through outreach - an eye-opening presentation given by ragingelephants.org founder; an entertaining presentation on beating the Dems by using education and social media; and what health care reform means to you by our own WCRW September speaker, Arlene Wohlgemuth.
I encourage every WCRW member to take advantage of future TFRW conventions!
