POVERTY: 2011 GA ALLIANCE TO END HOMELESSNESS ANNUAL CONFERENCE AND LEARNING INSTITUTE
The Georgia Alliance to End Homelessness (GAEH) will convene leaders from across the state and nation to work on developing a common agenda that will address Georgia's movement towards creating real solutions to ending homelessness. Date / Time: Tuesday, March 1, 2011, 7:00 a.m. through Thursday, March 3, 2011, at 5:00 p.m. Location: Hilton Atlanta/Marietta Conference Center, 500 Powder Springs St., Marietta, GA 30064 Register here This conference will give homeless service providers, our partners and homeless advocates the tools to return to their communities with skill sets and solutions to ending homelessness as well as create a foundation and legislative agenda to specifically address family, youth and individual homelessness. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be available and approved through the Georgia Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). |
Interfaith Perspectives airs Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m.
Interfaith Perspectives engages persons of faith in conversations that explore themes related to interfaith dialogue, understanding and collaboration. It encourages cooperativeness and positive interaction between institutions and persons of different faiths.
Premiering January 18: Join host Imam Plemon El-Amin as he talks with Jan Swanson, an interfaith activist and convener of the Interfaith Community Institute, about World Interfaith Harmony Week and the Atlanta community's response. One of the most important things faith communities can do for children is to pray for them.
Every child is a child of God and deserves justice and compassion. Every child deserves our prayers.
ICM encourages every faith community to become a spiritual witness for children. Hold a worship service in your church, synagogue, mosque or temple and invite others to join in praying for the well-being of all children. |
ICM Mission and Goals
The Interfaith Children's Movement was formed in 2001 as an intentional association of individuals and communities of faith from all religious traditions.
The Interfaith Children's Movement strives to be a voice for all Georgia children, but especially the poor and marginalized whose voices are often unheard.
ICM works closely with Georgia's policy-oriented child advocacy organizations, such as:

The United States is one of only seven nations in the world that has not ratified the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). Wazhma Frogh, a respected social and political activist for women's rights in Afghanistan, testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee why the US's ratification of CEDAW matters.

FAITH ALLIANCE OF METRO ATLANTA
FAMA is hosting a series of events to celebrate the first United Nations World Interfaith Harmony Week, the first week of February, 2011.
FAMA Luncheon, February 2, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at Trinity Presbyterian Church, which is located at 3003 Howell Mill Road, Atlanta.
The event will focus on the theme of this week. A distinguished panel of Archbishop Wilton Gregory, Ambassador Andrew Young, Rabbi Analia Bortz, Tayyibah Taylor, Brother Shankara, and Taiun Michael Elliston moderated by the Rev. Gerald Durley will be followed by an interactive dialogue.

------------------------------- GA ALLIANCE TO END HOMELESSNESS REPORT
2011 Homeless Count
During the last week in January, 2011, the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) will partner with over 60 communities around the state to conduct a count of homeless families and individuals in Georgia. The count will provide data on families and individuals who meet the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD's) definition of homelessness. DCA is partnering with Kennesaw State University who will use the data collected to create a statistical estimate of the number of homeless individuals statewide.
