Turkey Season is Here!
Yep...the sounds of gobbles are in the air. It's time to chalk up your box calls, get your snake boots out and start chasing some birds. Whether you hunt with shot gun or bow, chasing the Rio Grande or Eastern (if you're lucky) has to be one of the most enjoyable hunting activities there is. This year's season opens up on April 3rd and runs through May 16th for the North zone and started March 20th through May 2nd in the South zone. For more info on the zones , bag limits and general hunting regulations, go to the Texas Parks & Wildlife web site at

A few tips for those heading to the woods this spring.....
· Dress appropriately , which for us in snake country means snake boots, gaiters or chaps
· Take some insect repellent with you to ward off ticks and chiggers
· If your using a shotgun, make sure of your target and practice good gun safety out in the field
· Don't stand up to try to see an approaching bird...they have great eyes
· The early bird gets the worm...and its true in turkey hunting so avoid sleeping late
· If you plan on have the bird mounted, take along a pair of old panty hose to slide the bird in.... this will help project the feathers while you get the bird to your taxidermist
· Don't cancel your hunt just because it rains... switch over to a friction type call which carries the sound farther.
We hope everyone gets a chance to go out and chase a few birds this spring. Have fun & be safe.
