Kevin Barry Artt was convicted on the word of a
discredited
paid perjurer, Christopher Black, and given
a life sentence for his
alleged
involvement in political
offenses in the North of Ireland.
In 1983, he escaped with 38 other prisoners
from
Long Kesh
concentration camp.
Artt, along with Pól Brennan, James
Smyth and
Terrence
Kirby, collectively known as the "H-Block 4",
were arrested
in the United States between 1992 and
1994 and fought lengthy legal
battles
against extradition.
The British stopped extradition
proceedings,
allowing
Artt to focus on his love of singing, performing and
composing
lyrics.
His new
release, "Your Man, Ram Down The Gate'"
encapsulates the best
of this storyteller as Artt and
friends recall in song and music the
Belfast he
knew,
loved and was forced to leave behind.
'Your Man'
superimposes Irish/Scottish fiddle on top
of a spectrum of American pop
music.
Kevin
Barry Artt, Jim Foley and John McManus play in a
group called The Bog
Savage's a San Francisco band
performing classic Irish rebel songs.
Here they are,
joined by Ben Roberts, telling it as it was!!
