First Feature
January offers Southern California audiences a plethora of Theater entertainment. We highly recommend all three of these productions.
Here is a brief summary of whats on tap.

Pepperdine University in Malibu is offering a student production of Samuel Beckett's masterful
WAITING FOR GODOT.

"Samuel Beckett (1906-1989) revealed that among his inspirations
for Waiting for Godot was a Caspar David Friedrich painting, Two Men Contemplating the Moon, in which the subjects' faces are not completely visible and a hazy moon barely illuminates the rugged landscape.
Also, Beckett joined a Resistance cell in German-occupied Paris during World War II and, after being exposed, barely escaped with his French mistress to Provence, where they rode out the rest of the war in hiding. Some have drawn a parallel between them and what must have been their seemingly endless, uneasy waiting for the war's end and Vladimir and Estragon and their seemingly endless, uneasy waiting for the play's mysterious title character to arrive.
Whatever its meaning (or lack of it), the play has become a mainstay of the stage and one of the classic examples of the Theatre of the Absurd."

Ray Bradbury's latest two short works are
premiering in South Pasadena at the Fremont Centre Theatre.

In "Wisdom (1916)," an elderly man with not long left to live visits his beloved grown grandson and his companion one wintry night. The old man wishes to impart to his grandson the memories of a special friendship he made during one magical summer of long ago. But the better part of wisdom is what's left unsaid. Joshua Hime, Lauchlin MacDonald and Michael Prichard star. Longtime Bradbury artistic associate Alan Neal Hubbs directs.
In the new musical "2116," a husband and wife married nearly 40 years arrange separately, without each other's knowledge, to purchase android replicas of their younger selves to give to their spouses as presents. Unintended consequences ensue, and the man and woman each gain a little more knowledge about themselves and about the way life works in this comedic tale.  "2116" previewed in the fall of 2009 under the title "Ray Bradbury's Merry Christmas 2116." The January engagement marks its official World Premiere, with its shorter title, "2116."
The cast of "2116" includes David Stoneman, Rob Harryman, Lisa Morrice, Jessie McLean, Steve Josephson, Sarah Mann, Samantha Marcella, Christine Reese, Andrew Ruesch,  Shanti Harter and Monica Thibodeaux.
John Hoke composes the music. A longtime session musician and singer in Los Angeles, Nashville, New York and London, Hoke has written music for commercials and for television. He has toured North America and Europe extensively with the John Stewart Band, and has recorded his own album, "Fortunato," for Homecoming Records.
Steve Josephson developed, choreographs and directs "2116." He has previously written, developed and directed the musicals "Some Summer Night" (winner, New American Musical Writers Festival, New York) and "Tea & Crumpets" (Best New Musical, SF Bay Area Theatre Critics).

At the Pantages in Hollywood, RIVERDANCE
returns for a short and final run of the World's Best and finest Irish Dance and Music show. This is a must see because this particular company is composed of some of the finest performers that have ever graced a stage.

PHOTO OP FOR TUESDAY EVENING 1/12:

Even if you do not attend the performance on opening night; if you want a chance to catch some of your favorite Hollywood personalities, try to attend.

HOLLYWOOD STARS DANCE THE DANCE ON THE RED CARPET IN CELEBRATION OF THIS INTERNATIONAL PHENOMENON

School On Wheels

We first learned about School On Wheels in December of 2008 when O'Brien's Pub on Main
in Santa Monica participated in a Christmas Toy Drive for the homeless children that this great group serves.
This past year the second Toy Drive took place and it made us more aware of the daily problems and challenges that these kids face go on all year long.

School On Wheels was founded in 1993 and its purpose is to help homeless children with their schooling. They operate with
no government funding. They survive through the donations of people like you who believe that every child has potential and
every volunteer makes a difference.

School On Wheels provides  one-on-one tutoring for homeless kids who live in shelters, motels, group foster homes and on the streets. In addition to weekly tutoring and mentoring, every student receives a backpack, school supplies, and uniforms; students get assistance enrolling in school and with locating and filing school records; and each student receives a toll-free phone number for around-the-clock School on Wheels' support.
There is great need for the help that School On Wheels provides. Our readers can assist the efforts and get involved in many ways,
so please consider this appeal and contact them directly.
