KDL Introduces Kidville!
KDL welcomes you to Kidville, our newest early literacy initiative for young children. Kidville is an interactive learning center where young children and their caregivers can play, grow, and read. For a first look at this exciting new initiative, please join us at our East Grand Rapids branch on Sept. 28, our Walker branch on Sept. 29, or our Wyoming branch on Sept. 30 for a ribbon-cutting party and tons of fun activities.
KDL's Kidville locations feature developmentally appropriate books and activities carefully selected to help parents and caregivers prepare their young children to enter school ready to learn to read, write, and listen.

Summer Reading Wrap-Up
The numbers are in, and we're proud to say that this year's Summer Reading Club was another huge success. Over 20,600 children and teens read their way through the summer months in order to accomplish their reading goals. During that time, participants were rewarded with prizes for their efforts but they also kept their minds active while out of school. Studies have consistently shown that children who do not read during the summer typically score lower on tests at the end of summer than they did at the beginning. This is just one of the many reason to encourage your child to participate in a summer reading program. Read more...
KDL would like to congratulate all of this year's Summer Reading Club participants and we wish you a great school year!

S.O.S. For Michigan Libraries
We asked for your help and you came through. Over 3500 library supporters signed our petition to stop additional cuts in state aid to libraries. Your support helps to send a message to local leaders that our residents value libraries and believe in the positive impact they can have on a community. In these difficult times, your advocacy is more important than ever. With your support, the library will continue to remain a strong and vital part of our community. The Kent District Library would like to extend a sincere thank you to all those who helped us in our efforts. Your support is greatly appreciated. |
