COLLECT OF THE DAY

Keep, O Lord, your household the Church in your steadfast faith and love, that through your grace we may proclaim your truth with boldness, and minister your justice with compassion; for the sake of our Savior Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

REFLECTION

Practice Encouragement

There are people whose presence is encouraging. One of the most beautiful gifts in the world is the gift of encouragement. When someone encourages you, that person helps you over a threshold you might otherwise never have crossed on your own.

SOCIAL MINISTRY COULD USE YOUR HELP

The Social Ministry Commission is looking for new members who would be interested in being the member in charge of one of our ongoing projects. Here are the choices

1.       Carpenter's Kids - needs someone to advertise the program, solicit donations, coordinate with the Church School during Lent, keep in email contact with Mnase Parish in Tanzania. (year-round)

2.       Helping Hands - needs someone to help recruit and coordinate volunteers to cook and serve meals and supervise overnight on the nights we host homeless in Memorial Hall. (December through April)

3.       People to People - needs someone to advertise the need for food donations, and transport food to the People to People office in Nanuet. (year-round)

4.       Midnight Run - needs someone who can help Barbara Miesch recruit and coordinate people to donate food and make lunches on the second Saturday of each month. (year-round).

5.       Giving Tree - needs someone to contact Rockland Family Shelter in early November to find out their needs, set up the Giving Tree, and transport the gifts to the New City office before Christmas. (November-December)

Each of these programs is working but would be more successful if the Commission were larger and each member could focus his or her energy on a specific program. If one of these ministries is important to you and you would like to help, contact Charlie Cross, cjcross3ny@yahoo.com 358-4599.

PARTING THOUGHT

I shall keep singing!

by Emily Dickinson

I shall keep singing!
Birds will pass me
On their way to Yellower Climes-
Each-with a Robin's expectation-
I-with my Redbreast-
And my Rhymes-
Late-when I take my place in summer-
But-I shall bring a fuller tune-
Vespers-are sweeter than Matins-Signor-
Morning-only the seed of Noon-
