COLLECT OF THE DAY

Almighty God, on this day you opened the way of eternal life to every race and nation by the promised gift of your Holy Spirit: Shed abroad this gift throughout the world by the preaching of the Gospel, that it may reach to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

REFLECTION

There is some very fine teaching available on the Holy Spirit, and I hope none of you is satisfied with it. I hope none of you rests until you have felt the Holy Spirit blow through your own life, rearranging things, opening things up and maybe even setting your own head on fire. There is nothing you can do to make it happen, as far as I know, except to pray "Come, Holy Spirit" every chance you get. If you don't want anything to change in your life, then for heaven's sake don't pray that, but if you are the type of person who likes to stand out on the porch when there is a storm moving through so you can feel the power that is pushing the trees around, then you are probably a good candidate for the Holy Spirit prayer.

SHAKESPEARE'S SHREW SELLING SWIFTLY

It's the traditional story of the father favoring his younger daughter, who is "sweeter than perfume", over his older daughter who is mean-spirited and possesses a scolding tongue.  In fact, any man who would marry her would be considered a fool and to be "married to hell".  You too can watch the antics unfold at the Sunday, June 27th, 6:00pm, performance of the The Taming of the Shrew, but you should act quickly.  Over half of our 50 reserved tickets have been sold already to our Gracechurch family and friends.  Contact Barbara Cross during coffee hour, call her (358-4599) or send an e-mail to babcross@aol.com .  You may also call the church office to reserve (358-1297. ext. 10) but don't forget to write a check ($32 per ticket) to Grace Episcopal Church (note Shakespeare on memo line), hand it in or mail to the church office.  So mark your calendars and make a date for an evening of fun!  Barbara Cross
