COLLECT OF THE DAY

Almighty God, whose blessed Son our Savior Jesus Christ ascended far above all heavens that he might fill all things: Mercifully give us faith to perceive that, according to his promise, he abides with his Church on earth, even to the end of the ages; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen

REFLECTION

Grace: A Permanent Climate of Divine Kindness
Grace is one of the most majestic words in theology. It suggests the sublime spontaneity of the divine which no theory or category could ever capture. Grace has its own elegance. It is above the mechanics of agenda or operation. No one can set limits to the flow of grace. Its presence and force remain unmeasurable and unpredictable. Grace also suggests how fluent and seamless the divine presence is. There are no compartments, corners or breakages imaginable in the flow of grace. Grace is the permanent climate of divine kindness. It suggests a compassion and understanding for all the ambivalent and contradictory dimensions of the human experience and pain. This climate of kindness nurtures the sore landscape of the human heart and urges torn ground to heal and become fecund. Grace is the perennial infusion of springtime into the winter of bleakness."

Another link to check out:  Spiritual Literacy Blog
From the introduction to the site: "Spiritual literacy is the ability to read the signs written in the texts of our own experiences. Whether viewed as a gift from God or a skill to be cultivated, this facility enables us to discern and decipher a world full of meaning.  Spiritual literacy is practiced in all the world's wisdom traditions. Medieval Catholic monks called it "reading the book of the world." The Spiritual Literacy Blog is our attempt to read the book of the world as revealed through articles and images available on the Internet. "

SHAKESPEARE'S SHREW SELLING SWIFTLY

It's the traditional story of the father favoring his younger daughter, who is "sweeter than perfume", over his older daughter who is mean-spirited and possesses a scolding tongue.  In fact, any man who would marry her would be considered a fool and to be "married to hell".  You too can watch the antics unfold at the Sunday, June 27th, 6:00pm, performance of the The Taming of the Shrew, but you should act quickly.  Over half of our 50 reserved tickets have been sold already to our Gracechurch family and friends.  Contact Barbara Cross during coffee hour, call her (358-4599) or send an e-mail to babcross@aol.com .  You may also call the church office to reserve (358-1297. ext. 10) but don't forget to write a check ($32 per ticket) to Grace Episcopal Church (note Shakespeare on memo line), hand it in or mail to the church office.  So mark your calendars and make a date for an evening of fun!  Barbara Cross
