Friends and Colleagues:                                                                                                                                                                   Dean Steve Crosby - 09

If you live in Boston, don't forget to vote tomorrow in the Mayor's race.  I think it's been good for the City and good for Menino to have a serious challenge, and the Flaherty/Yoon efforts have brought real energy to the city.  But we've also been reminded why the current Mayor's popularity has been sustained at high levels all these many years.  And do join us for the post-election brown bag lunch on Wednesday at noon.

On September 23rd Dr. Christian Weller delivered extraordinary testimony to the House Committee on Oversight and Governance Reform.  His focus was "How to Ensure Minorities Share Equitably in the Economic Recovery and Beyond."  His research and analysis is directly compatible with similar work done by our Center for Social Policy on the gender equities-or inequities-in stimulus investment, and the Commonwealth Compact on "Managing Diversity in Challenging Times."  Christian's conclusion, as you might imagine, is that "the decline in economic security during the recession is much sharper for all of minorities than for whites."  All this work represents much of the core mission of the McCormack Graduate School.

Christian's full testimony is found here.

A friend of the McCormack Graduate School, and one of the early Advisory Board Members of the Commonwealth Compact, Mary Mazzio, is launching a remarkable new documentary on November 13th called TEN9EIGHT.  The film chronicles inner city kids who fight through adversity to become entrepreneurs.  Join us on the 13th at the Boston Common AMC Theatre.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo of the Philippines has appointed Ms. Annabelle (Belle) Abaya as the new Presidential Advisor on peace negotiations with the National Democratic Front and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.  Belle is a 2001 graduate of our Dispute Resolution Masters Program.
