Greetings!

Welcome to "Just Add Value," the newsletter of the Center for Business, Industry & Labor at St. Louis Community College.

In this month's issue we will tell you about the State of Missouri grant programs that can help fund employer training initiatives. Read on to see if your organization might be eligible!

Customized Training Grants

Financial GrantsDid you know that the State of Missouri provides many of CBIL's eligible business clients access to grant funding for training?

Companies located in Missouri that provide full-time company employment to Missouri residents may qualify if they are creating net new jobs or if they are retraining existing workers as a result of substantial capital investment.  Additional criteria such as growth industries and competitive wage rates may also affect a company's eligibility.

The most popular training grant program is the Missouri Customized Training Program.  This program can provide eligible companies with funding assistance which allows CBIL to develop "customized training" designed to meet the employer's specific needs. This program helps provide specialized training needs for businesses as they work to increase productivity, increase quality, introduce new technology, and/or add new products.

CBIL partners with two agencies at the state level to administer the Missouri Customized Training Program: The Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED) and the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).

Types of training allowed range from technical and quality training to team building and leadership training, as well as other specialized training customized to meet your needs.  Costs associated with instruction, curriculum development, technical writing, and training materials and supplies can be funded or partially funded through this program.

We would be happy to meet with your company to determine eligibility, complete an application, prepare a proposal for training, and submit the required information for funding consideration.  The State operates on a fiscal year beginning July 1, with all Missouri Customized Training Applications for the next fiscal year due in early June 2008, so the time to act is now.

Contact Don Robison today to start the application process for the next fiscal year.

Other Missouri Industry Training Programs

In addition to the Missouri Customized Training Program, we also partner with the State to offer several other training funding programs, including the:
  • Missouri Community College New Jobs Training Program
  • Job Retention Training Program
  • Missouri Incumbent Worker Training Program

The Missouri Community College New Jobs Training Program provides training funding not available in the Missouri Customized Training Program for those companies creating significant numbers of new jobs, such as a start-up or major expansion in the State of Missouri.

The Job Retention Training Program is intended for retraining an existing workforce in order to retain a substantial number of jobs in the State of Missouri.  Substantial capital investment is required and the employer may need to demonstrate risk of relocation.

The Missouri Incumbent Worker Training Program may be available to assist employers not eligible for any of the other Missouri Industry Training Programs for incumbent worker training to raise the skill level of a workforce.

Program eligibility, funding availability and project timeframes vary with each of these programs.   In addition, other factors may determine the final qualification for participation in any one of the above programs.  Please contact Don or see your Project Manager for more information.
