EPA Proposes Requiring the Use of Sufficiently Sensitive Test Methods for NPDES Permit Applications and Reporting The public will have 45 days to comment on the proposed rulemaking after publication in the Federal Register. Webcast on Sanitary Sewer Overflow Rulemaking and Peak FlowsThe EPA is seeking stakeholder input to determine whether to modify the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) regulations as they apply to municipal sanitary sewer collection systems and SSOs.  IECA Remembers Two Industry Pioneers Alfred Tsuguo Nitta, CPESC, founder of Nitta Erosion Control, passed away on May 31, 2010 on the family ranch in Loomis, CA where he was born on March 19, 1923. Al was 87 years old. Al joined IECA in 1977 and was awarded the Environmental Achievement Award for his innovative retrofit designs and, at 85 years of age, was named Contractor of the Year at EC08 in Orlando, FL. Dr. Sherri L. Dunlap, MBA, D.Eng., CPESC, of Houston, TX, passed away on June 25, 2010. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Caring Aggie Mentoring Program (C.A.M.P.) c/o Houston A&M Club, PO Box 27382, Houston, TX 77227, the American Diabetes Association or the International Crane Foundation, PO Box 447, Baraboo, WI 53913. Sherri was the Applied Technology and New Product Manager for the Harris County Flood Control District in Houston. She made technology more available for HCFCD, its engineering consultants and others by sponsoring the creation of design manuals such as the HCFCD Design, Installation, and Maintenance Manual for Gabion Structures. She also sponsored the Design Manual for Articulating Concrete Block Systems written by Paul Clopper, P.E. in 2001. Sherri was a member of IECA since 1995, where she served on the IECA Board of Directors for seven years.  KriStar Perk Filter Achieves GULD Listing KriStar Enterprises, Inc. has been notified that its FloGardŽ Perk Filter has achieved a General Use Level Designation (GULD) from the Washington State Department of Ecology for Basic and Phosphorous Treatment. The report's findings indicate average removal ratings exceeding the standards established for both Total Suspended Solids and for Phosphorous. More >>
 Stenlund Wins 2010 Presenter of the Year Award IECA has announced that Dwayne Stenlund, MS, CPESC, CPRM, is being recognized with the 2010 Presenter of the Year Award at EC11. This award recognizes an outstanding presenter that demonstrates excellence in presentation skills, educational delivery and content preparation. The winner is determined through the review of presenter evaluations received at IECA's annual conference and expo. Stenlund was awarded with the Presenter of the Year Award for his course Concrete Management Best Practices in Minnesota at Environmental Connection 2010 in Dallas. More >>
