WHAT IS UNDERMINING OUR HEALTH?

Last month I introduced you to the idea of a grass roots effort to reclaim our health (see January Newsletter); this is a continuation on that topic.

We did not get this unhealthy by accident! We have been manipulated by very sophisticated marketers, fast food industry specialists and well funded interest groups. For decades they have raked in money at our unhealthy expense. These groups lobby in the highest political arenas to continue their ways and successfully distort media influence to gain our interest and eventually control our behaviors.

What is their message? That we should use their products because they're fun, cool, affordable, wholesome and will make our lives oh-so-much-better! The fact is that much of their 'truth' is really lies.

So many of us have taken the bait-we have become brainwashed! Just look at our daily behaviors and choices which poison our bodies, fog our minds and cost us billions in medical bills (Revolutionary Act).

I'm not mentioning specific unhealthy actions as I think you can probably identify some unhealthy choices in your own life. What I encourage you to do is really look hard at some of these choices and start considering changing.

Affinity Gyn- Not Just for Girls

At my office I occasionally hear a 'click' on the other end of an incoming call and I wonder if it was a guy needing to make an appointment; did he get thrown off when we answered "Affinity Gyn"?

Then there is the other call when a moment of silence occurs...then questions about having the right number are asked? Not Just for Girls

Let me explain. When I formed and named my business in 2006 it reflected my patient population at that time. It was primarily women but it has taken on a life of it's own; once I helped the women, they they wanted me to help their husbands, boyfriends etc...

I am an Adult Nurse Practitioner with a national sub-speciality in Women's Health; therefore my ability to care for men is not limited by state law. I have had years in which I cared for men (when I worked as an Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner for Scottsdale Health Systems). My patient base was over 5,000 employees!

So I have considered changing my business name but it is such an arduous task I just keep putting it off...so for now, please overlook the 'gyn' and feel free to send me your friends; both gals and guys!

As a small business owner, I have carefully been building my practice. The next step in my growth was to be under my own roof and that goal became a reality as of March 1st 2010. I am in my new home and invite you to join me. Most insurances are accepted (either under my name or under my Medical Director, Sharonelle Simmons MD). I continue to appreciate your referrals-it's the best compliment I can receive!
