Congratulations to Dejan Tubic on gaining 4 Million hits on youtube!
On May 12, 2010, Fox 5 News filmed Dejan's Wednesday night class @ IDA Hollywood. This was a big milestone in his career and I was there to support. I have witnessed Dejan's growth since the beginning and his drive and passion is incredible. This is just the beginning for him.
"I feel blessed to know I have people watching. My videos are
reaching 6 million views on youtube and I think its great that more and
more people are now watching dances on youtube. Dancing is becoming more
reachable to kids all over the world. I wish I had that when I was
younger. First the New York Times, then Fox News came to my
class. Its nice when dancers get appreciated in this industry. Time to
get more dancers recognized in this industry" - Dejan Tubic

Dear Readers,
Thank you so much for checking out The Industry Voice Newsletter: "Where Every Artist Can Be Heard". From the newbies, to the up and coming, to the celebrities: the Industry Voice doesn't discriminate. As artists, we each strive to spread out voice through a creative outlet and it's informative to know what our peers and idols are up to. The Industry Voice is certainly one of a kind and I will consistently strive to make each issue better then the last.
There is always so much going on in the Industry, so I have decided to share each month my experiences, research and more through an informative newsletter. I make it my goal to update you on the latest events, people or places your should get to know, my own personals wins, upcoming events and more.
My goal is to create a home for artistic minds to flourish and to continue networking as an artist. We have to remember that we are all hustling in this crazy industry together.
Being a fellow May baby myself, I can honestly say there is no other month that has as many birthdays and continues to produce life and excitement for the Industry. Carnival took a complete 180 and produced an AMAZING show this month. Carey and Paulette went back to basics and showcased choreographers who think out of the box and accept their role as artists in the universe. PHLEX celebrated his birthday in style with a CRAZY red carpet event @ Hwood Nightclub in Hollywood, CA. IDA knocked out a great showcase @ The Musicians Institute and are proving they will reach great heights. Gina Starbuck produced Art4Life to celebrate the memory of her father and much more.
This was the busiest ever, but in the end it was a blast! So sit back and enjoy this issue.
Pleas Enjoy, Subscribe & Forward to a Friend

May Favorites
For the first time ever, TIV has TWO month favorites!
Carnival @ Avalon Los Angeles, CAwww.thechoreographerscarnival.com 11 years ago, Carey Ysais, supplied a home where artists can express their talents and creativity, but over the past couple months, something has been missing from the Choreographer's Ball. On May 26th, 2010 the Ball was reborn and the night was full of imagination, creativity and excitement. Dancers are calling this choreographer's ball "The Best Carnival of 2010"...so far. Andye J. expressed the power of a strong black woman with a ridiculous piece to Mary J Blidge's "The One", choreographer/dancer, Tony Czar showcased his skills as an R&B singer with a live band, Shaun Evaristo, "the King of Love Stories", made all the girls swoon with his love for dancer, Dana Wilson, Asylum Dance Company reminded the audience that hard work pays off with a super clean routine, Junko brought old school to the stage with a sick popping & locking piece, Tessandra Chavez performed her popular piece "Pretty Wings" and made the audience feel, PHLEX choreographed a fresh routine for aspiring
singer, TC Chapman, Dejan Tubic was finally able to express his love for Britney Spears with a huge cast & fantastic makeup, by Melissa Pizzamiglio, Carey Ysais brought the audience back to the 1950's with a fun swing routine and so much more exciting moments.
For the first time, I am proud to say that I was one of the choreographers for the show. It was my first Carnival and I had a great time. My piece was very different, which a year ago I would have been to afraid to produce, but I have come to a point in my life, where I'm not afraid to embrace my unique style. My cast did an amazing job and I couldn't have been happier. They brought the audience into a world of mystery, sexiness and mystique. Much love to my dancers: Ashley Cinq-Mars, Tenile Pritchard, Teri Corcoran, Amelia Burkhardt, Lindsay Russo, Jordan Wentz, Ginger Goldbaum, Isaiah Spence, Atilio Jamerson, Francisco Thurston and Jon Paul. You are all so talented and soon the industry will know just how much. I loved working with each of you.
This time it was hard to do, but in true TIV tradition, there is a Top 5.
#5. Dejan Tubic #4. Junko #3. Shaun Evaristo #2. Andye J
#1. Tessandra Chavez - "Pretty Wings" WATCH "PRETTY WINGS" ON YOUTUBE NOW!!Words can not even explain how much I LOVE this piece. For those of you who are loyal TIV readers, you might remember I discussed "Pretty Wings" in the February Issue after coming across it on Youtube in January 2010. (CHECK OUT THE FEB ISSUE) I have been dying to see this piece LIVE and the universe finally granted me my wish. At tech rehearsal, when I heard the song, I literally grabbed my girlfriend's arm, looked up and said "OMG...this is it!" Tessandra's movement is just beautiful and with every step, every arm, every head, every lyric from Maxwell's song "Pretty Wings", you understand what she is trying to say. The piece spoke to me and moves me to no end. I CRIED LIKE A BABY! HAHA! The last piece that touched my soul like this was Tricia Miranda's 2009 "Woman's Work". Tessandra keep doing your thing and I hope "Pretty Wings" reaches great heights.
All Carnival videos will be available next month!!
HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO CAREY & PAULETTE ON AN AMAZING CARNIVAL!!! &
PHLEXTRAVAGANZA @ Level 3 Hollywood, CAOn May 20th, 2010, PHLEX presented a black and white affair at Hwood Nightclub in Hollywood, CA, where everyone was dressed to impress. This event was insane! In ONE HOUR, over 400 people filled the venue to capacity and 50 or more people were desperate & eager to get inside around 11:00pm. It was crowded and chaotic, but it was a complete success. The show at midnight was a hit, with several performances, including one from recording artist and ABDC judge, Lil Mama.
PHLEX, a fan of The Industry Voice, wanted TIV on the red carpet as press, so I hired talented dancer/host/choreographer, Annalisia Simone, to be the TIV host for the evening. For those of you who don't know Annalisia she owns the Basement studio and has worked with numerous artists including Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake and even the late Michael Jackson. Annalisia is very down to earth and she did an amazing job. I couldn't have been happier. Thank you to Phyras Men for bringing his crew out to film the carpet. His company is called Brownskynn Productions and I am so happy to have him on the TIV team.
On the carpet, TIV interviewed numerous industry names like Lil Mama, Harvey Walden from VH1's Celebrity Fit Club, Rhapsody James, Shane Sparks, PHLEX and many more. To see all the best interviews click the link below.
Lil MamaRecording Artist/ABDC Judge
I wanted to know the brilliance behind the man, so I asked Phlex to answer a few questions for this issue. 1. How did you first come up with
Phlextravaganza? "Phlextravaganza
was created 5 years ago when I moved to California. I always dreamed of having
a Hollywood industry party with celebs, red carpet, performances, etc. So I
decided to create an event for entertainers to shine and feel good about what
they do!"
2. Is this just the beginning for being
an amazing event host? "This is
definitely the beginning of Phlextravaganza, I plan to turn this event into a
really big nationwide celebration for people to go to like Mardi Gras. I've
always wanted a holiday. LOL."
3. How do you know Lil Mama? "I first met Lil Mama while working with my group Fysh n Chicks from ABDC season 1. She's always wanted to work with
me, so we made it happen finally this year!! We have a great relationship, and
love working with each other!"
4. What other projects do you have in store? "I am working on a lot of projects right now. I am choreographing and
artistic directing Lil Mama, I'm working on the development of my company Flos
Angeles, working with my new artist Tisto, choreographing a new dance game for
Nintendo Wii, Debbie Allen Summer Intensive 2010 and more."
5. Was Phlextravaganza 2010 a success
for you? "Phlextravaganza
this year was very successful. Everyone had an amazing time and there were over
400 people in attendance and we reached capacity in a little over an hour!
Awesome turn out!"

Get To Know.......
How the Jabbawoockez show was in Vegas?
For those of you who don't know the Jabbawockeez, they are a group of mysterious masked men, who made history on March 27th, 2008 after winning MTV's hit show, America's Best Dance Crew(ABDC).
Since ABDC, the Jabbawockeez have reached great heights. They have
appeared in Pepsi & Gatorade commercials, performed on Ellen, Live
with Regis & Kelly, Dancing With The Stars and So You Think You Can
Dance, made a cameo in Step Up 2 - The Streets, toured with New Kids on
the Block and so much more. Now the white masked crew, with a crazy imagination and
killer moves were granted a fabulous opportunity to headline their own
show in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand from May 7th - 26th. The boys
named the show "Mus-i-c" and it was directed by the fabulous Tabitha & Napoleon. This was a victory for the talented ABDC
winners, but also a HUGE milestone of achievement for the dance industry as a
whole. The are the FIRST HIP HOP CREW EVER TO HEADLINE IN VEGAS!
UNFORTUNATELY
I WASN'T ABLE TO MAKE IT OUT TO VEGAS WITH MY SCHEDULE. SO I ASKED
SEVERAL DANCERS TO SHARE THEIR EXPERIENCE WITH YOU. ENJOY THEIR
REVIEWS! :) "The
Jabbawockeez
show was an incredible experience! Me and some friends just
decided to drive to Vegas last minute, because we didn't want to miss
out.
Overall the show was great. The most inspirational and exciting part to
me
about the whole show was just seeing a legit dance crew make it so big.
There
are teams and crews throughout the world that only dream of making it to
the
point where they are the stars of their own show. I appreciate the
directors,
Tabitha and Napoleon Dumo, so much for knowing the potential that
dancers have
to be headliners. Dancers don't always have to be the ones in the
background
behind the singers, but they can really be the artists. It was exciting
to see
Jabba shine in that light!" -CANDACE
BROWN
"I was blessed enough to be invited to the premiere of the Jabbawockeez
show in Las Vegas on May 7th. The show had a freshness that has been needed
in Sin City for a very long time. It had highlighted moments, from
their run on ABDC, as well as audience participation, humor, and a witty
storyline at times that made the show very unique. Overall it was a very
entertaining show and we can expect great things from the Jabbawockeez. We can
expect them to be around for a very long time with a promising audience willing
to enjoy their upcoming projects." -JESSICA MARTINEZ
"When I first
heard that the Jabbawockeez had their own show I was so excited for them. Dancing
within the same community that they are a part of, I knew... that was everyone's dream, to dance together, travel together, have your own show and
make a living. I wasn't even expecting to see the show because of the fact that I myself am a
starving artist, but a friend surprised me with the chance to go see it, and I
took it! I wasn't able to sit with my friends for the show cause we bought our tickets separately so I seriously sat in the last seat in the house, I'm talking last row
back corner, I laughed when they showed me my seat. But you know, there isn't a
bad seat in that theater at all. While everyone's finding there seats, there is one Jabba, walking around,
entertaining the audience, playing with them, light stuff, thought it was
pretty cute and follows the usual Vegas format. As the show starts I get really hyped, they perform some of my favorites, and
it just takes me back to the old days. The lights and the music go great with
their movements which are very on point. Second half comes through and a huge
set rolls out, its full out, huge mask on stage and everything, I'm like ok,
they taking it to the next level. Think that was my favorite part of the show,
the entrance of the big set and their use of it. What I liked a lot is that their show is all about the music and letting it
inspire you, the music is the "mus-i-c". And they invite the audience
to let the music take them to places they've never imagined existed. Overall it
was a good show, dancing, lights, tricks, video footage, laughs, and just a great
tribute to the Jabba Legacy. What I do feel it lacks though is story line. There
is a part in the beginning where a Jabba "dies", but you don't know if
that goes throughout the whole show....and another video shows a Jabba reading
a book, about "beware the Jabbawockeez" but it just takes you to
another section of dancing, and there is a lot of random moments that I feel take
away from the show. Don't get me wrong, I liked the show, and am so proud of all of them to getting
to where they are and I know Tabitha and Napoleon worked extremely hard in
making it happen, but if they want to be compared to the rest of Las Vegas
shows, it needs an upgrade. Seriously...there was no fog machine! I was
like...where is the fog. LOL. But the show is great for the entire family. I
enjoyed myself and wish them the best in the rest of their shows. Hey they were
sold out, so I know they were happy, and definitely lots of Filipino and Asian
support and love in the audience, they sure came through to represent." - Beto "Nico" O'Connor |
SPOTLIGHT
The Hookvsbridge Trilogy Bryan Tanaka & David Moore Have you checked out the Hookvsbridge Trilogy on youtube? It's SICK and episode 3 (the final chapter) was released last month. David Moore (CLEAR) & Bryan Tanaka (MSA) created a charismatic story about love, choices and chance encounters. They used a dynamite cast, fierce choreography and crazy video effects. These boys proved they have a lot of
artistic fire power underneath their belts and blew everyone away with
this project. David, was able to showcase his camera skills and Bryan was right beside him sharing in the vision.
Their cast selection was perfect and when you watch the trilogy, you know these dancers were 100% committed to David & Bryan's vision. "Casting our dancers was fun and
easy. We wanted to work with dancers that were reliable and talented.
Luckily, we ended up with mostly everyone we wanted, in our eyes, the
best of the best!! :)"
Respected dancer, Sophie Aguiar, was the female lead in the video and she did her thing! She has worked with Beyonce, Keri Hilson and is currently on tour with Neyo. She definitely shined as an actress, as well as a dancer. "Her (Sophie) presence on camera made her an
easy choice for the lead
girl."
CHECK IT OUT THE TRILOGY NOW!
On June 1st, 2010, David Moore & Bryan Tanaka, answered a few questions for TIV and all the Hookvsbridge Trilogy fans.
1. How did you come up with this amazing idea?
Tanaka & Moore: "We came up with the Trilogy idea
together. We wanted to create something that had a purpose and a concept in
which we could tell a story on camera through the music and the movement. One day
we were listening to some of Kevin Cossom's music and talking about how amazing
it would be to put together a story in three parts, using three of his songs
from the release of his Hook vs Bridge EP. It took about 2 weeks to
prepare the whole story line, cast it, and choreograph it."
2. David you were the director of the video. Where did you learn your
skills?
Tanaka: "David got all his skills from
me. HAAA Just kiddin! This guy always has a vision and knows how
to direct people, direct camera shots, shoot camera shots, and even edit the
shots!" David:"I've just been working with cameras and have been interested in
editing for about 7 years now, so i think I learned mostly from trial and
error. It was also helpful that Bryan and I could work together on the
direction of how/ what the shots were going to be, two minds are always better
than one!"3.
Where did you film the trilogy?
Tanaka & Moore: "We
filmed most of
the Trilogy at Solar Studios in LA. Then we had to do a few scenes in
different locations around LA. Big shout out to Tammy Fey ;)"
4. Will their be future projects for fans to look forward to?
Tanaka: There will definitely be lots
more to come from David and I. We are starting a production company and
will be producing many more projects. (Upcoming Videos, Bryan - Behind the
Rihanna Tour "Rihanntourage" series
and David - 'Concept video collaboration with Marty Kudelka')5. What has been your recent accomplishments aka "WIN"? Naka: "I recently finished Beyonce's I Am World Tour and have currently started
a new world tour with Rihanna." David: "Well Step up 3D in theaters August 6th, Im the dance
double for the lead guy, Luke. Also, me and Ivan Koumaev have started a summer
dance convention thru Nuvo Productions (www.reignthedomain.com)"CHECK OUT THEIR CLASSES. THEY ARE A LOT OF FUN!Bryan Tanaka Tuesdays & Thursdays @ 3pm at MillenniumDavid Moore Monday & Wednesdays @ 6pm at Millennium AND Tuesdays & Thursdays @ EDGE at 8:30pm |

Gina Starbuck Presents - "Art4Life" A Benefit to Support the American Cancer Society May 31st, 2010 This was actually my first year attending Gina Starbuck's event: "Art4Life" and I had a great time. No hassle at the door, very chill atmosphere, great show and Paula Abdul chilling in a booth near me didn't hurt either. Heather Morris from Glee, Francia Raisa, from The Secret Life of The American Teen and the hilarious Ryan Hill, were the hosts for the evening. They did a great job and the show really flowed. Tessandra Chavez did my favorite piece "Pretty Wings", Erica Sobol choreographed a amazing duet, Azure Antoinette, from Medium Live Art, read her powerful poetry, Emily Shock created a masterpiece with two beautiful dancers, Melissa Miles did her sexy thang with her ladies, Gina herself choreographed 3 hot pieces and so much more. Art4life was the perfect way to finish out the month of May. I think it's beautiful how Gina throws this event to raise funds for The American Cancer Society in memory of her late father, who she lost to Cancer a few years ago. With death, there is life and every year Gina is helping someone LIVE theirs to it's fullest. Gina I applaud you!! CHECK OUT "IMPRINTS" FROM THE SHOW WATCH GINA'S CHOREOGRAPHY REEL
Essence Website Launch Party @ Level 3May 28th, 2010Hollywood, CASo getting into the Essence website

it all disappeared. It was pure adrenaline from beginning to
end. Andye J. did her Carnival piece "Blackout", Sean Evaristo played
love games with Jillian Meyers, Australian singer, Richard Tanumi,
owned the stage with a hot performance, The Sh*^%t Kings were super
crisp and animated with their suspenders and top hats, The GRV crew went
"in" hard (I have never seen so many tongues - haha!), Kaba Legacy killed it and the Essence Ladies proved why
their assets. For me, it was Derrell
Bullock's choreography that really caught my attention. He wasn't fooling around. It was energy x10!
Dana Rosenthal murdered his choreography. I couldn't take my eyes off of
her. Don't be fooled you guys when you see Dana working at Debby's. She's
got skills. Essence is an all female dance company started by dancer, choreographer and artistic director, Gigi Torres. these days. The teaching staff is getting amazing, the showcases keep
getting better and it's all because of Kim Hollingsworth. She knows what
works and has become a second mother to all of us at IDA. She sees who
you are inside as an artists and will support you if you rise or fall.
Kim we are all so lucky to have you. That said, I
asked Lindsay Russo, my
friend, assistant and now a new writer for The Industry Voice to cover
the event. ENJOY! www.idahollywood.comWelcome Lindsay Russo

IDA Hollywood presented another
eye-catching showcase, Hot Latin Nights,
on Saturday, May 15th, 2010, emphasizing our sexy, Latin
dancers in the community. While one could easily think that the show was
going to be just another "Tango," it was certainly the opposite!
Hosting the event was sexy (and I mean sexy!) dancer and choreographer,
Noel Bajandas and his female sidekick Lizzy Thrasher, who did an
excellent job at
keeping the audience entertained in between pieces! Performances
ranged from traditional Salsa to Brazilian Zouk (a new style making its
way into the U.S.) to Whip Tango, in which host Noel Bajandas, shirtless
and whip in hand,
accompanied performer Ruthy Inchaustegui -- It was H-O-T! While each
performance had its own unique style, the two numbers that completely
stole the show for me were two of the larger group performances. Yaminah
Legohn put together a fun, "Caribbean Vibes" piece, having her dancers
dressed in bright, tropical colors while Isaac Tee, this being his first
project in Hollywood, arranged an entertaining, Island
Funk piece with the perfect amount of energy to end the show!! Be sure
to check out IDA Hollywood's next showcase this August 2010, while they
chronicle the history of hip hop! |

I hope you all enjoyed this issue. I had a lot of fun putting it together. This month was a WILD ride, but it was totally worth the stress and the lack of sleep, because in the end we all had WINS during the month of May. It proves that hard work really does pay off.
Much Love. Thanks for checking out The Industry Voice. -Aliya Perry
