Originally a NY native, I relocated to Los Angeles, CA in 2008
after being signed with BLOC talent agency. I strive to take risks and
be more then just another choreographer, actor or dancer. I want to be
different. I want to be ME! All you have in life is this moment. This
second. This NOW. So why waste it playing it safe. I encourage every
dancer, actor or choreographer to embrace their inner artist and JUST
LIVE. When you LIVE completely in the NOW it is an amazing experience.
My
resume includes
Choreographing/dancing
for international pop star Armenchik @ the Nokia Theater Oct 2009, NYC
Fashion Week, performing off Broadway, actor for THE LITTLE THEATER ,
Freestyle for The Frontline Fashion Show in NYC (Brian Friedman Line),

R.I.P Greg "Campbellock Bullock JR" Pope 1952 - 2010
On January 27th, 2010, the legendary breakers, The Lockers, were honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at Carnival's 11th year anniversary ball. An emotional, Carrie Yasis, creator of Carnival, had stated "Without these people there would be no THIS." That night, Locker member, Greg "Campbellock Bullock" Pope, was rushed to the hospital. Sadly Greg passed away that night! The Lockers made people realized how dance can be a portal to happiness, joy and love. Thank you Greg and the rest of the Locker family for creating a platform for us to follow. God Bless! Happy Valentines Day & Black History Month,
There is always so much going on in the Industry, so I
have decided to share each month my experiences, research and more
through an informative newsletter. I make it my goal to update you on the latest events, people or places you should get to
know, my own personal wins, upcoming events and more. My goal
is to create a home for artistic minds to flourish and to continue
networking as an artist. The Industry Voice will primarily focus on the
dance world, but there will be a few surprises highlighting other art
forms in between.
January was a slow month, but there were a few events that had the industry buzzing this month.
Please Enjoy,

January Favorite
Rhapsody, Phlex & Tricia KILL IT @ CarnivalHappy 11th Year Anniversary Carnival! The Choreographers Ball on January 27th,
2010 at Club Avalon, was certainly an interesting night. It was a brand new location and everywhere you looked, there was someone you knew such as Backstreet Boys member, AJ Mclean, Janet Jackson choreographer, Gil Duldulao, and even a guest cameo from Paula Abdul. In between the drinks at the bar and freestyle battles, there was of course the show. Dance legends, The Lockers, were honored, Julie McDonald, founder of MSA Talent Agency, was recognized by Paula Abdul & more, ABDC's The Beat Freaks brought back the "magic ball" with a slam dunk performance and You Got Served star, Robert Hoffman, offered his hilarious opinion on what DOESN'T make you a model. That said, it was the out of this world performances by choreographers: Rhapsody, Phlex and Tricia Miranda that still has everyone buzzing. The creativity behind these three dance forces was untouchable!
Rhapsody (credits: Beyonce, Jonas Brothers, Pussycat Dolls) Rhapsody manifested true female power with her choreography on stage, by using several fierce ladies in black leather. The use of simple movements, was extraordinary. Only Rhapsody could make a repetitious head nod look HOT! Her cast of female dancers was a huge variety of races, sizes and styles, but the denominator was the 100% commitment to Rhapsody's dynamite choreography. She knows how to make a woman feel sexy, but still portray a force to be reckoned with. These girls were strong, sexy and murdered Rhapsody's vision. If you have never taken class with Rhapsody, then you need to ASAP. This woman is BAD! She embraces who she is and is never afraid to be herself, she is a true character. Tricia Miranda (credits include: Beyonce,

Agency Only Tricia Miranda, The Industry Voice Artist of the Year,
would take advantage of a unique name like Carnival and actually
choreograph a full on circus for upcoming recording artist, Kimberly
Cole. Men were on stilts, figure skating stunts were executed on roller
skates, the beloved, Sohey Sugihara, played the crazy ringmaster, loud
colorful costumes with an 80's twist became part of the choreography and
an insanely flexible blond could possibly be the human "gumby." Tricia
is respected in this industry, because she is NEVER afraid to take
risks. This is why she will become a legend. (credits include: Britney Spears Circus Tour) CLEAR Talent Agency I can't say enough, he is not only a kind person inside and out, but this man will take an idea and create a masterpiece. How many choreographers do you know, can recreate GREASE, with props & costumes, as a hip hop number and NOT make it look corny? His choice in music with the story line was pure genius. He fusioned
together popular Grease tracks with some of the hottest smash hits today and told the famous love story of Danny and Sandy. "Danny", played by the lovely, Rob Peters and "Sandy", played by Jamie Overla, who danced with the Backstreet Boys & Beyonce, started the piece with "Summer Lovin" and the next thing you know the characters were dancing their emotions to "No Air" by Jordan Sparks and Chris Brown. During the school dance scene, Phlex designed the perfect way to tell the story with smash hit "Teach Me How To Jerk" by Yung Jok and this made the crowd go NUTS. While watching this piece, Phlex was right next to me and I couldn't contain myself, I had to hit him in shock over how brilliant he is. Another great job Phlex! SPOTLIGHT
"Pretty Wings" Tessandra Chavez
(Credits include: So You Think You Can Dance Tour) In January 2010, I came across a dynamic piece called "Pretty Wings", which was
choreographed by the creative mind of Tessandra Chavez. Her
interpretation to Maxwell's R&B ballad is inspirational, moving and
feeds the soul. Alvin Ailey smiles from above, with the use of
lighting, costumes and
grounded movements. Viewers are kept on the edge of their seat
with a fresh hip hop vibe. "Pretty Wings" debuted at TRAFFIC 2009 by Tessandra's
amazing dance company, Unity Dance
Ensemble. The company will perform this master piece numerous times throughout the year at several different venues, but it's their annual show, TRAFFIC,
which attracts a sold out crowd, exceptional dancers and a night full
of creativity. On January 31st, 2010 the master piece was performed at Vibe Hip Hop Competition as an exhibition performance. Experience "Pretty Wings" By Tessandra Chavez
"Pretty Wings" is only one of the many exceptional pieces of art Tessandra Chavez has created. Unlike most, she is not afraid to embrace her individuality and manifest a style to call her own. She combines jazz, hip hop, ballet and modern into a unique force named "Fusion" and
consistently creates memorable productions. In 1994, at the age of 15 years
old, Tessandra conquered her dream and created, Unity Dance Ensemble. Through persistence, passion and determination; Unity
Dance Ensemble, has become a respected, highly desired and well
accomplished dance company. It now contains three branches: Unity San
Diego, Unity LA and Unity 2, which is the apprentice company.

GET TO KNOW....
J. Klassick THE ARTIST MSA Talent Agency
Joel Gamble, best known by his stage name, J. Klassick, has been a hustler in the industry for years. If you don't know J. Klassick, you need too! As a choreographer, he has dominated numerous studios throughout Los Angeles and Las Vegas, such as Millennium, IDA (International Dance Academy), Smash, Backstage and North Star. As a dancer, Joel has networked his way into working with numerous artists, such as Cassidy, Mario and Marques Houston. He also opened for JaRule, Ashanti and Toya, but Joel Gamble has many more hidden talents which are about to rise to the surface in 2010. He is also a song writer and recording artist! "One of the
things that people don't know about me is that I am an all around
entertainer, like Sammy Davis Jr., I CAN"T be boxed in. When I was
younger, people would tell me my style was smooth and classy. People
would say my approach was sick. I took a little bit of this and a little
bit of that and came up with KLASSICK, because classic NEVER goes out of style." Check Out J. Klassick Dancing to Omarion J. Klassick Choreographs to Imma Be by Black Eyed Peas
J. Klassick was interviewed on January 26th, 2010
How long have you been J. Klassick the singer? "Singing has always been a part of me from the beginning. I was raised in a Church and was always surrounded by real, organic, soulful voices, but I didn't truly pursue anything until I was 15 years old, when I joined a boy group named "Rewind". We were scouted by artist & repetoire's, for Universal Records, on a developing deal with writers and producers for B2K and the Backstreet Boys at the time. Tabitha & Napoleon (So You Think You Can Dance) were our choreographers. I have nothing but kind things to say about them (Tabitha & Napoleon).
What you see is what you get. They truly are that genuine."
Why is NOW the time to come out as a recording artist? "I feel through my training with numerous showcases, talent competitions, being raised in a Church surrounded by real, organic, soulful voices and being a part of "Rewind"; has helped prepare me to take the next step as a recording artist. Without all that, I don't feel that I would be as strong to pursue a career as a solo artist."
What is in the works for J. Klassick the RECORDING ARTIST? I am signed with Spin Sound Music Management under Atlantic Records. I am currently in the studio working on my demo to be shopped by a major label and working on video projects to be exposed to different media products. We are taking a new direction and seeking a fan base through the "viral" world as opposed to VH1, MTV or BET. In Spring 2010, a few songs will be
available for purchase on Itunes, Tunecore and Amazon.com. The full
album will be released Fall 2010. I feel with my music it isn't for a
certain race, but its for a culture,
music to me is like love, its blind when it hits you. It has
no color lines!"
What is in the works for J. Klassick the SONG WRITER? "Actually my manager has been networking and I am working on several side projects, beside my own album. I am currently focusing on placement projects for artists like Mario & Beyonce. A few months ago, I issued a track for a SPIKE TV and On Demand motion picture named "Xtra Credit" for upcoming artist JADE.

January Highlights
ABDC is BACK! The Regionals
"This season looks pretty good. I'm excited for the nationals on February 15th. I know one of the crews on the show, but can't reveal them, before the show does. Next month, I plan to do an article on ABDC. I can't wait!"
The Grammy's January 31st, 2010 "I was super excited to see Lady Gaga perform and once again she smashed it. I love her wackiness! It's GREAT! Pink did a great job also and it was a nice change of pace from her usual rocker self. The Michael Jackson tribute was nice, but I wasn't that crazy about their song choice and the use of Smokey Robinson."
This Is It DVD ReleaseJanuary 26th, 2010"So I know as much as everyone loved the King of Pop you are sick of talking about it, but you really should see this movie! As an artist, it's inspirational!
Travis Payne, a famous Michael Jackson dancer, made sure that the King of Pop's spirit was alive at the DVD release party in NY with performances, speeches and more."
Academy Awards OPEN Audition Center Stage Studios
Januray 22 - 23rd, 2010"This audition was definitely a publicity stunt, but it was fun anyway. Adam Shankman, SYTYCD judge, held the jazz on Friday and kept the hip hop audition short and sweet with three count of eight on Saturday. Once you passed that round it was on to the second round, where you learn the entire piece. My favorite part of the audition was when a dancer finished auditioning and walked outside and said: "I'm going to VEGAS." Everyone cracked up, because they set it up as if it were SYTYCD."When are the Oscars? March 7th, 2010
