 | | Devon Erickson earns all 133 Merit Badges |
Local Scout Earns All 133 Merit Badges This July, 17 year old Devon Erickson went to Camp Easton and earned his Kayaking merit badge. Six years ago Devon joined Boy Scouts with the goal to earn all merit badges. He earned his Eagle rank when he was 14 1/2 years old but he didn't stop there. Devon had a goal and he was determined to achieve it. On July 20th, Devon was awarded his last 4 merit badges that would complete his goal and fill up his double wide merit badge sash with 133 merit badges. According to meritbadgeknot.com, only 171 Scouts in our nation have accomplished this feat. (meritbadgeknot.com called last week to confirm Devon is the 172nd Boy Scout to achieve this goal) "We're really proud of him," said Erickson's mother, Colette. "He set his goal, never gave up and achieved it. We figured out a game plan to make it easier to chew (rather than trying to take on too much at once). He went to two or three summer camps a year and tried to get any he came across." The Inland Northwest Council is very proud of Devon but we recognize that a lot of other people had a hand in this accomplishment too. Devon's Boy Scout leaders and merit badge counselors, his family and fellow Scouts helped him along and encouraged him in this goal. This is a huge accomplishment for the entire community.

As one of our volunteers said in the survey, "I think that volunteering in Scouting is a fantastic experience for both the leader and the Scouts." Did you know that adults who earned the Eagle Scout Rank as a youth are 76% more likely to hold a leadership position in their local community than adults who were never in Scouting? A nationwide study of men who earned the Eagle Scout award by Baylor University shows this and much more- read more of the results here. What has Scouting done for your family or your community? Go For Gold in Your Journey to Excellence
Scouting's "Journey to Excellence" is the BSA's new council performance recognition program designed to encourage and reward success in our units, districts, and councils. It is replacing the Centennial Quality Awards Program as a means of encouraging excellence in providing a quality program at all levels of the BSA. The recognition levels are set up like the Olympic medals. Gold is the measure of excellence. We challenge you to "Go For Gold!" this year.

Powered By Popcorn Powered By You
Welcome to the 2012 Inland Northwest Council Popcorn Campaign. Our goal this year is to see every unit, every Scout, sell enough popcorn to fund their program.
It all starts with a goal, based on a unit budget, broken down per family. Units and Scouts with goals sell twice as much as those without a goal!
There are many exciting changes to the 2012 campaign!
