Scouts Doing Great Things!
|
Cayman Kirkhart of Troop 291 in Coeur d'Alene Idaho featured in Boys' Life Magazine for his extraordinary Eagle Scout Service Project.
"I was looking at the motto, 'Be Prepared' and I thought of doing it by teaching the community how to be prepared for a disaster-because in Idaho there are a lot of things like that," Cayman says. "I thought it would be good training for the community to know what to do." Read all about this Scout's extraordinary service project here.

Local Scout Earns All 133 Merit Badges.
Devon Erickson, an Eagle Scout in Boy Scout Troop 225 in Spirit Lake, has accomplished a rare feat: he has earned every merit badge offered by the Boy Scouts of America! There are only 171 Scouts in our nation that are known to have accomplished this. We believe that he is the first Boy Scout in the Inland Northwest Council to earn them all! See this article in the Spokesman-Review to learn more.

In our recent Voice of the Scout survey, 100% of parents said, "Scouting reinforces worthwhile values for my son." As one of our volunteers said in the survey, "I think that volunteering in Scouting is a fantastic experience for both the leader and the Scouts." Did you know that adults who earned the Eagle Scout Rank as a youth are 76% more likely to hold a leadership position in their local community than adults who were never in Scouting? A nationwide study of men who earned the Eagle Scout award by Baylor University shows this and much more- read more of the results here.

Camp Easton, Camp Grizzly and Cub Country at Cowles Scout Reservation all Nationally Accredited by BSA.
Each year, each of our summer camp programs undergo an in-depth evaluation of facilities, staffing, certifications, procedures, and programs to make sure that our camps are safe, offer an excellent program, provide qualified and properly trained staff, and are prepared for a variety of situations that may arise during the summer. This evaluation is conducted by a team of visitors trained by the Boy Scouts of America. In addition, our council camping committee conducts an annual pre-camp and a post-camp inspection of each facility to identify and resolve any safety issues at the camps. We are pleased to report that each of our summer camp programs were nationally accredited again in 2012!

Motorboats Needed!
We are in need of up to 3 new or used motorboats for Waterskiing and Motor Boating merit badges at Camp Easton. We are looking for 18' to 20' boats with around a 140 hp outboard motor and preferably with a ski tower. Donated boats must be in good working condition with no major repairs needed. We use boats more in one summer than most boat owners do in 5 years! We cannot accept boats that are not in good condition. Donors may receive a tax deduction for the fair market value of the boat. To donate your boat, call or email Chris Baker, Development Director, at 509-325-4562.
