Minnesota Unitarian Universalist Social Justice Alliance
 October 13, 2011

Greetings!

We've had a wonderful early response to our Appreciative Inquiry: How Will Minnesota UUs bring Justice? event on November 5th. You can reserve your spot (and your turkey or vegetarian lunch) via this quick and easy RSVP form, or by calling us at 612-998-6624. It's going to be a fascinating day!

FaithAnti-AmendKickOffOrganizing our UU voice for marriage equality and against the 2012 anti-LGBT marriage amendment is under way. At least 55 UUs attended the Faith Organizing Kick-off, and nearly 600 people of many faiths packed the sanctuary of Hennepin Avenue United Methodist on September 19th. Thank you to all who joined us from  far (Rochester, St. Cloud, Mankato and more...) and near. There are plenty of ways to join the work that is ahead. See below for two events coming soon!

Moving Planet-Moving faith was an inspiring day and a chance for UUs to show our colors ~ blue for the blue boat home where we all live. Click for a photo album of UUs in action! MovingFaithMN350

HIRE 494 Rally Pic

HIRE Minnesota Campaign Meeting

Tuesday, October 18th, 6:00-8:00 pm

Central Corridor Resource Center

1080 University Avenue West
St. Paul, MN  55104

A recent report on racial disparities in employment from the Economic Policy Institute shows that while the unemployment rate for Black Minnesotans in the Twin Cities did not increase significantly, the disparity between white and black workers expanded... again. From 2009 to 2010 unemployed White Minnesotans were getting hired, while Black Minnesotans were not.

HIRE Minnesota is committed to ending racial disparities in Minnesota, and continues to fight for a fair share of jobs when public dollars are spent. But it's also time to broaden HIRE's work. Your input is needed: what do you want to see accomplished and what new opportunities do you see for confronting these ongoing disparities? Come share your vision and goals for an equitable region. Join HIRE on October 18! Dinner provided, RSVP helpful but not required.
