Greetings!
Thank you to the many UUs who attended the Faith Rally for Marriage Equality last Thursday. It was a great event and we were a strong presence in UU numbers, in UU clergy, and in UU energy.
Working with partner OutFront Minnesota, we hope to get a marriage bill through committee hearings this year as a way to build towards successful passage in just a couple of years. It is long term social change work, and it is buoyed up by powerful events like this rally.
As the legislative session is now in full swing, our work with the HIRE Minnesota coalition is a key focus. We are at the Capitol this week lining up Representatives and Senators to co-sponsor a hiring equity bill. This bill would ensure that bonding funds offer real opportunities for low income people and people of color to find meaningful work in infrastructure and the new green economy.
We will keep you posted about ways you can help move this racial equity legislation and a bonding bill that is equitable and will create jobs. If you can join us tomorrow morning, the annual release of the Report Card on Racial Equity is an excellent way to show support for our ally organizations.
In other MUUSJA news, our Reproductive Rights-Sacred Choices campaign invites you to this Friday evening's film and inter-generational discussion night.
Our working groups are all busy with preparations for General Assembly (registration opens March 1!), and the Prairie Star District annual conference is just around the corner!

MUUSJA Spring General Meeting Sunday, April 11 Location TBA
Featured speaker: Dane
Smith, President, Growth & Justice Dane is a member of Unity Church Unitarian in St. Paul and the organization he leads "believe[s] that at a time of deep partisan division, Minnesotans can
unite around one goal: a strong and growing state economy that provides
a decent standard of living for all. Social justice cannot always be
imposed by governments. It more often flows naturally from widespread
access to economic opportunity."

If you want to be an official GA volunteer to receive free registration, applications are accepted Mar 1 - Mar 31. Volunteers work 24 hours during GA. Conference hotel rates range from $115 to $164/night. Limited U of M dorm space is offered at a flat rate of $260/5 nights. MUUSJA is hosting three workshops during GA. The workshops are scheduled for 1 pm, 2:45 pm and 4:30 pm, all on Thursday, June 24th. This summary program grid is a handy way to get an overview of the whole sequence of GA. Hope Community will be the service project this year, and there are hands-on opportunities during GA. Twin Cities Pride Weekend is during GA! There will be a public witness event in Loring Park at lunchtime on Saturday, June 26. And on Sunday, June 27th, right after the morning worship, MUUSJA and the other UU State Advocacy Networks invite GA attendees to join local UUs as we march with a float in the annual Pride Parade. |
