For the Convention
Almighty and everlasting Father, you have given the Holy Spirit to abide with us forever: Bless, we pray, with his grace and presence, the bishops and other clergy and the laity soon to be assembled in your Name, that your Church, being preserved in true faith and godly discipline, may fulfill all the mind of him who loved it and gave himself for it, your Son Jesus Christ our Savior; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
For the Ordinands
Almighty God, the giver of all good gifts, in your divine providence you have appointed various orders in your Church: Give your grace, we humbly pray, to all who are called to any office and ministry for your people, especially those to be ordained at the upcoming meeting of diocesan Convention, Malcolm, Amy, Corey, and Peter; and so fill them with the truth of your doctrine and clothe them with holiness of life, that they may faithfully serve before you, to the glory of your great Name and for the benefit of your holy Church; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Keeping up with Canon Liz:
|
| VISION | |
All Episcopalians in Hawai`i shall work together to create a Church filled with visible and spirit-driven Christians - Christians who are eager to share our Episcopal tradition and faith, and traditional Hawaiian spiritual values, with those who have not yet found a spiritual anchor in their lives.
GOALS
1) Convert our Hearts to Accept Jesus' Gospel Message and to Live in a Deep Relationship with God. 2) Transform the Episcopal Church in Hawai`i and Congregations to Vital and Vibrant Faith Communities. 3) Evangelize to Share God's Love in Our Communities. 4) Reduce the structure and administration costs of the Diocese so that its operations, including its bodies, are directed to supporting transformation and growth.
The Five Marks of Mission of the Worldwide Anglican Communion:
1) To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom
2) To teach, baptize and nurture new believers
3) To respond to human need by loving service
4) To seek to transform unjust structures of society
5) To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth.

Important Reminders in Preparation for DJ'11 & the Annual Meeting of Convention

As the date draws nearer to two important diocesan events, Disciple's Journey 2011 (DJ'11) on Friday, October 28, and the 43rd Annual Meeting of the Convention, on Saturday, October 29, it is hoped that all participants and delegates are preparing themselves in body, mind and spirit.
HAVE YOU RECEIVED A COPY OF THIS BOOK?
Both events take the theme Born of Water, Born of Spirit, from the book by the same name. Co-author, Fredrica Harris Thompsett, will be the keynote speaker at DJ'11, and the book will be used as a basis for learning and conversation in the workshops and small group discussions taking place. Books have been distributed to churches, so please check with your clergy or parish administrator.
CONVENTION DOCUMENTS AND INFORMATION AVAILABLE
If you haven't already done so, delegates should visit the diocesan website here to review the documents and forms for the meeting. There is also a link to the 2012 - 2014 Budget page, Resolutions, and information on shared travel.

9th Annual Chocolate Extravaganza
A Celebration of All Things Chocolate! By Jane Tonokawa

Saturday, November 12, 2011
6:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
VIP Event starts at 5:00 p.m.
It's CHOCOLATE TIME AGAIN!! Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Enchanted Lake, Kailua, is partnering with Family Promise of Hawai'i for the fourth year. Join with the congregation in an opportunity to be part of the solution to homelessness in Hawai'i.
The ninth annual event consists of an all-you-can-eat chocolate buffet, coupled with a silent auction. Donations have already been secured from Agnes Portuguese Bake Shop, Cake Works, Choco Le'a, Cinnamons Restaurant, Hokulani Bake Shop, Royal Hawaiian Hotel, and more.
Three nontraditional auction items will be a tour for eight to the Marine Mammal Resarch Center on Coconut Island, a three-night stay at a Kaua'i beach house at Kalihiwai, Kilauea, and two tickets to the Hawai'i Opera Theatre's production of Aida. A variety of restaurant and salon gift certificates will also be showcased.
Half of the event's financial success is due to ticket sales. Tickets are now on Sale! Presale tickets are available for $20 and will be available for sale at the Annual Meeting of Convention. Tickets purchased at the door will be $25. Golden Tickets to the VIP reception are available for purchase at $30 each; only 50 tickets will be sold and they are nearly sold out. Attendees to this special reception will be served and given the opportunity to sample the top chocolate confections in an elegant, but casual, garden settingl. This VIP reception begins at 5:00 p.m. before the general public arrives for the buffet.
The other half of the event's financial success is due to donations to the silent auction and chocolate donations. DONATIONS ARE REQUESTED! If you or someone you know can bake, please consider supporting the event in this way.
Emmanuel's website is updated with information as it becomes available. An FAQ (frequently asked questions) sheet as well as ticket and donation forms are now downloadable. You can view last year's event program and photos too.
Please email Jane Tonokawa or Carolyn Remedios with any questions.

Calling all knitters and crocheters!
St. Peter's Knitting Ministry is making Afghans for flood victims
The K2P2 Knitting Ministry of St. Peter's has taken on the daunting task of making afghans for members of an Episcopal church in Minot, North Dakota, who were washed out in the recent summer flooding. They are collecting 7" x 9" blocks of any color and any yarn, that are then being assembled into afghans. K2P2 (K2Pray2) was recently featured in the October E-Chronicle for a prayer shawl that was sent to comfort retired clergy, Ann McElligott, in Portland, Oregon, who is going through cancer treatments. If you would like to share your talents, please email Nancy Rowe at St. Peter's Epsicopal Church in Honolulu.

St. Michael's on Kaua'i Announces Two Huge Events Coming up in February 2012
It's a widely known fact on Kaua'i that Fr. Bill Miller, Rector of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Lihue, has given the island (and perhaps the state) it's very best Jazz event! Attracting artists and music lovers from around the world, and nearly 1,000 Episcopalians in the mix, people wait with anticipation for the yearly event. The 6th Annual All Angel's Jazz Festival will be held February 3 - 5, 2012, and consists of two concerts and two Jazz Masses, featuring artists such as Saxophonist Horace Alexander Young, the Gospel Divas, Hawaiian vocalist and bassist Bruce Hamada, and the Hot Club of Hulaville, to name a few.
But the 2012 Jazz Festival is just the beginning of a week-long celebration of creative liturgy and congregational development. Following the Jazz Festival, St. Michael's will host a workshop with Fr. Bill on February 7 - 9, entitled "Net: How Real Churches Really Grow", based on his forthcoming book by the same name.
The three-day conference is designed for all lay people, church and diocesan leaders or staff, and clergy. Participants will learn vital church growth lessons based on the metaphor of the ancient Hawaiian method of Hukilau fishing. The conference consists of six sessions, two each morning, with afternoons free to explore the beautiful island of Kaua'i. There will be opportunities to apply the principles to particular congregations represented.
"As a bishop of the church, I wish I could clone Bill Miller! Bill has an amazing gift of intuition, of assessing the context and ethos of a congregation, and then bringing out the best of that in order to share the Good News of Christ with the world." - The Rt. Rev. Greg Rickel, Bishop of Olympia
For more information, visit St. Michael's website, or email Fr. Bill. You may also read more about both events on the diocesan website here: Jazz Festival or Congregational Development Conference.

Episcopal Relief & Development (ERD) offers The Abundant Life Garden Project for children

In developing formational programs for children in the Episcopal Church, ERD is providing another means through which "little ones" may find the abundant life that Jesus came to offer us-- through service and learning to be "mindful of the needs of others" (Book of Common Prayer, page 835).
The Abundant Life Garden Project is an interactive, Scripture-based children's curriculum offered to parishes, teachers, families and others who seek to share the ministry and work of Episcopal Relief and Development with elementary school-aged students. To learn more about this low-cost program, visit the ERD website HERE.
