Greetings!
Oh NO! We missed a week.First time since we opened. Blame it on Spring Break and a family pilgrimage to Canyonlands in SE Utah, a road trip across five states.But we're back, and there's a lot happening!
SAVE THE DATE Monday, April 23rd for a FREE coworking day! It will be like having a "productive party," with the normal 9:30 check-in to set your goals, a lunch event, and more! Come Wednesday at 1pm to practice your Ignite presentation; the deadline for submission has been extended until this Thursday, so you still have time. And new art is coming to OfficeXpats! Starting this week, we say good-bye to Steve Wilson's amazing Northwest photography and welcome John Wood's photo-art in a show he calls "Imagine That." Join us Sunday, April 15, 4-6pm for a reception with the artist.

Ditch Your To-Do LIst! An Introduction to Kanban
 Does this sound like you? "I'm too busy," "I don't know what to do next," or, "I don't feel like I've accomplished anything lately." In this workshop we will practice a system for visualizing workflow, which helps to identify bottlenecks, set priorities, and eliminate waste. G ary Knopp reprises this Introduction to Kanban (see the report from a previous workshop), discussing both physical and online Kanban boards. He recommends LeanKit Kanban as the online tool of choice (free for a single board).  Kanban is used in manufacturing and with software development teams but can even be helpful to individuals for project and task management. Practitioners of Kanban are in demand as management consultants, and it can help anyone become more organized and focused on results while avoiding overwhelming complexity.

Video Workshop Series Parts III & IV: Editing!
This Tuesday and next, from 12-1:30, we complete an exploration into video production "for the rest of us." Last session we fanned out around the Pavilion to shoot 30-second tests of light and sound, and got powerful hands-on proof of the improved sound quality of using a remote mic. This week we start into editing using iMovie. We'll screen tutorial videos that show you in live action and narration how video editing works, and after each tutorial we'll pause for a live Q&A with the actual iMovie software projected on the screen. (PC users: concepts and terminology are the same; Windows Live Movie Maker 2011 is FREE)

Writers Group "SPELL" meets Thursday, April 12
SPELL is a peer-to-peer group dedicated to the written word. We plan to meet on a regular basis to exchange information, support each other's work, and provide a friendly forum for work and ideas. The next meeting will be April 12 from 3-5 pm. New members are welcome. |
