GREETINGS
Wanda Paik, Robert Finley, Colleen Campbell and Irina Gelman backstage at Robert's performance with Boston Civic Symphony

Dear NEPTA Members,

As we prepare for our Annual Meeting and Awards Recital on May 21, I am delighted to look back upon the events of my first year
as President. It has been wonderful to become better acquainted with NEPTA's members, attending concerts and sharing our passion for teaching.

I am deeply grateful to the Board and to the Committee members who have worked so tirelessly to ensure the highest caliber of offerings in NEPTA. The year is coming to a close but we will continue to work through the summer updating the NEPTA website, planning the Speaker Series and preparing the Program Booklet and Membership Directory for next year.

There are many ways in which you can volunteer in this great organization. I invite you to offer a small portion of your time to NEPTA if you have not as yet done so. It is rewarding beyond measure. Please come and speak with me or send me an email. I would love to hear from you.

As this is the last NEPTA newsletter until September I would like to wish to all of you a glorious, music-filled summer. I look forward to seeing you on Monday, May 21.

Warm regards,

Colleen Campbell

President

ANNUAL MEETING AND AWARDS RECITAL

The Annual Meeting and Awards Recital featuring performances by NEPTA's competition winners will be held on Monday, May 21, 9:30am, at the First Parish in Watertown.

Preceding the concert will be the business portion of the morning including the nominations of three candidates for the 2012-2013 board terms:

I am very excited at the possibility of working with these wonderful teachers. At the same time I must bid a fond and grateful farewell to Indiana Chalsen, Sally Reed and Diana Tetzlaff as they complete their respective terms on the board. I wish them all the best in their future musical endeavors!

TEACHERS' EXCHANGE and MEMBERS' COFFEE

"The Use of Technology as an aid to Teaching the Piano" was the fascinating topic presented by Robert Finley on April 9, 2012 at the Wellesley Free Library.  The program featured a live Skype exchange with a cellist in Minnesota. Remote piano lessons and even ensemble performances were effectively demonstrated. Click here for Jean Alderman's beautifully written notes.  Many thanks to Robert for sharing his extensive knowledge with us.

A delicious and welcoming coffee hour, graciously organized and presented by Dianne Impallaria, preceded the April Teachers' Exchange. Dianne's generous efforts and artistic touches were greatly appreciated.

STUDENT MASTERCLASS
On April 30 we were treated to an exciting Student Masterclass taught by Konstantinos Papadakis. The wide range of repertoire included Beethoven's Pathétique Sonata played by Daniel Shaar, student of Natalia Harlap, Chopin's Scherzo in B flat minor, played by Natsuko Yamagata, student of Margaret Denton, and finally Prokofiev's Sonata No. 3 played by Raagini Rameshwar, student of Janet Ainsworth. Mr. Papadakis skillfully and sensitively guided the young performers toward new insights and achievements. Many thanks go to Janet Ainsworth who expertly chaired the masterclass.

PARKING REMINDER
PARKING METER -COLLEEN CAMPBELL Please be aware that Watertown has restricted parking on the side streets immediately surrounding the First Parish church and thus eliminating any "free parking."

The good news is that the metered spots in the parking lot adjacent to the church can accept coins up to a maximum of 8 hours (blue meters only), thereby removing the need to go feed the meter during our meeting breaks, offering instead an opportunity to socialize with NEPTA friends and colleagues.
