Conservation Alumni Steve Lynch
We're Back for More
Last February, I embarked on a journey from Chicago to Denver to serve as an AmeriCorps Leadership and Conservation Corpsmember, not knowing what my ten months of service had in store for me. The experience brought me to places I never dreamed I would be, doing things I could not have possibly imagined. As my term drew to a close, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to spend another year of service at MHYC, this time as the Conservation Alumni Mentor...

With one year at the Corps under my belt, I have taken off my cargo pants and work boots and changed into business casual as I start year two as the Outreach Alumni Mentor. I'm trading a chainsaw for a laptop and a screwdriver for a cell phone. Less than a week into my new position I'm already feeling the excitement of opportunity...

Rachel Hansen, MHYC Corpsmember of the Year
Meet our Corpsmember of the Year

Congratulations to MHYC Alumna Rachel Hansen for being selected as our 2009 Corpsmember of the Year. Rachel served in the AmeriCorps Leadership and Conservation Program last year and was elected to the MHYC Leadership Council early in her term. There, she joined other Corpsmembers to provide youth voice to agency matters. Rachel's drive to try new things continued into the summer as she joined her crew to remove harmful invasive species from open spaces across the Front Range. Serving as the Assistant Crew Leader on her fall sawyer crew, Rachel learned how to communicate effectively. With a 96% attendance rate, Rachel successfully completed her 1,700 hours of service last month and earned an education award of $4,725. She is continuing on with AmeriCorps, completing land conservation work with the Florida State Parks Department. Way to go, Rachel!
