MHYC Southern Frontrange Region
MHYC Merges with Springs-based Youth Corps
Mile High Youth Corps is excited to announce that the Colorado Legends & Legacies Youth Corps (CLLYC) in Colorado Springs has merged with us to create one youth corps organization that will serve the Denver metro area and the seven counties of the Southern Front Range. CLLYC has operated a small, high-quality program for the past five years but knew that the organization could not be financially sustained or grow in its current form. The merger will create significant efficiencies and cost-savings in the Southern Front Range programs due to combined administrative, fiscal, development and marketing functions under MHYC's current management structure and brand. In addition, programming will be strengthened by the resources and expertise that MHYC can provide.  We are excited about having the opportunity to expand to serve additional youth and community project sponsors in the seven counties currently served by CLLYC.

Our next steps include supporting current CLLYC staff as they finish their summer program this month and hiring a Site Director to manage the Colorado Springs office and future programming in the region.  Once the new Site Director is in place, we will implement a strategic planning process to determine our focus for 2010 and beyond.   Expanding our reach to seven additional counties in the Southern Front Range is ambitious yet, in this challenging and uncertain economy, providing young people with tangible skills is more important than ever.  We are thankful for the opportunity to expand our reach to this region of the state. We will continue to provide updates on the merger as we continue to transition the program and begin the strategic planning process. If you have questions or ideas about the merger Kelly Causey at 303.433.1206 opt 2, x225 or kellyc@mhyc.net.

We're Now Accepting YouthBuild Applications
"Thanks to Mile High Youth Corps, I was able to successfully get my GED. YouthBuild helped me find my leadership potential and showed me how to conduct myself as a young gentleman. The program has also given me vital qualities to successfully get a job and turn it into a career."  -Danny, current YouthBuilder

YouthBuild is a job training, education and leadership development program for out-of-school and unemployed young adults ages 18-24. YouthBuild Corpsmembers split their time between a working on a construction job site (where they learn diverse construction trades) and studying for a GED in the MHYC classroom. MHYC 2009 Summer Site Visits
Elected Officials Check Out MHYC's Work
Over the past two months, six local, state and national government officials have stopped by MHYC and our Summer of Service projects. "MHYC youth are working hard all summer to benefit the community and seeing them in action is a highlight of anyone's day, let alone for public officials," said Executive Director Dr. Kelly Causey.

Site visits offer officials the opportunity to experience firsthand the work taking place within their districts, acknowledge the young adults serving in the Corps and learn more about the programs at MHYC. "They really enjoy (the visits) and our youth have a rare opportunity to voice their input directly to elected officials. It's civic engagement at its best."

Thanks for Visiting MHYC this Summer

-Colorado Governor Bill Ritter
-Denver City Councilman Rick Garcia
-Denver City Councilman Michael Hancock
