MHYC Alumni Luke Leiden
Corps Alumnus Attains Energy Job in Nation's Capital

Even before joining Mile High Youth Corps in August of 2008, Luke Leiden knew he would spend his life working towards a cleaner future. "I was raised in an extremely environmentally-conscious home." After earning his BA in Environmental Studies from the University of Pittsburgh, Leiden began a job search in Denver. "I was amazed to read about the energy conservation position at MHYC; it seemed like the job had been specially crafted for me." Leiden spent the next four months conducting single and multi-family home energy audits and educating residents on the importance of conservation. "I learned how to communicate effectively about protecting the environment and how to empower people."

Leiden now works as an Energy Auditor with Elysian Energy in Washington D.C. "My boss was thrilled with my background in conservation and my participation with MHYC. He recognized how passionate I am about making a difference and being a voice for the environment." In five years, Leiden sees himself continuing to grow in the fields of energy conservation and renewable energies. "We have no other choice than to get everyone on board. I believe that conservation is the most pressing issue our world is faced with today."

MHYC Has Successful Summer Thanks to 2nd Quarter Donors

Mile High Youth Corps appreciates the following individuals, companies and foundations who've donated to the Corps during the second quarter of 2009. Their contributions helped provide summer employment to over 100 young adults. These Corpsmembers are completing community improvement projects like trail construction, campground rehabilitation, urban landscaping, water conservation and building affordable housing. "My crew has made some real changes at our project sites and we're proud of our accomplishments," said Corpsmember Ben Watson. "It's been a great summer."
