Egyptian Americans in the Bay Area: The Pioneers
Dr. Tag Eldin Mansour
 Tag_Mansour
In a serene setting at the heart of Stanford University campus stands the house of Dr. Tag Eldin Mansour, Dean of the Egyptian American community in the San Francisco Bay Area, and his wife of 54 years Dr. Joan MacKinnon Mansour. I have known of them since my arrival in California in the early nineties and have seen them regularly at most if not all EAS events. They would always arrive together "on time", sit and chat with any group sharing their table, greet some old familiar faces, and then quietly leave when conversations subside and loud Arabic music becomes the focus of the evening.

Their determination to keep up the connection with the homeland through EAS gatherings when many of their old friends were no longer around always fascinated me. But to Tag and Joan, Egypt has always been a second home, and a big part of their life, so it was only natural that they seek the connection and keep it going. Their house is indeed a testimony to their bi-cultural background with a multitude of Egyptian artifacts, Arabic typography and David Roberts' lithographs alongside large oil paintings by Tag Mansour himself, depicting some of his most intimate memories of Egypt's landscape.
An Appeal for Help!
On behalf of Saint George and Saint Joseph Coptic Orthodox Church and the Michaiel family, we ask for your prayers and your help

Johnny Michaiel is a seventeen-year-old high school senior. He is a bright and positive young man who will be starting college in August 2009.

Stanford University Medical Center doctors have told the Michaiel family that Johnny's kidney will completely fail in 7 or 8 months. The Michaiel family is praying for God's mercy and for their community's support in their search for someone who might be able to donate a kidney to this young man and increase his chances of a healthy and successful future.

If you are a male or a female, younger than 50 year old, have blood type O (positive or negative), and are willing to donate one of your kidneys or know of someone who is, please contact Johnny's kidney transplant coordinator nurse:

New National ID (Rakam Kawmy) Website and Online Service

The Consulate General of the Arab Republic of Egypt in San Francisco announces the new National ID (Rakam Kawmy) online service provided by the Egyptian Authority of Civil Affairs.

All Egyptian citizens abroad, who have not had the chance yet to apply for the National ID and who would like to do so when Civil Affairs Missions visit the US, can now learn more about the required documentation at the website http://www.cso.gov.eg/Caution.aspx.

They can also submit a preliminary online application at the same website and obtain a confirmation number of their application at the end of the submission.

This online application will help the Egyptian authorities estimate the size of demand for this service by Egyptians in different regions to determine the effectiveness of such missions as well as their most appropriate time and location.

If you require additional information after submitting the online application, you can directly contact the Authority of Civil Affairs at:
Tel: +(202) 226-32087 or +(202) 240-33179, Fax: +(202) 226-19436, email: [email protected]

Please note that you will need to refer to your application confirmation number when contacting the Authority of Civil Affairs in Egypt.
