THE PLACE I CALL HOME
A documentary by Egyptian filmmaker Tamer Ezzat
Reviewed by Magda Danish

Tamer Ezzat's documentary follows the lives, thoughts, and aspirations of four Egyptians struggling to find happiness, stability, and a place they can call home. Steering away from stereotypes and cliché's,  Ezzat's choice of protagonists touches on so many aspects of Egyptian life that everyone in the audience will undoubtedly relate  to at least one of his main characters , if not all of them.
Financial hardships, broken dreams, identity crisis, and religious restrictions all come into play when those young Egyptians reflect on their lives and attempt to describe their vision of a happy and secure future.
As expected, the documentary does not provide solutions. It does however prove that the growing trend of immigration among Egyptian youth is not always the answer, at least not for everyone. This movie will make young Egyptian viewers think twice before venturing into the  immigration process, and it will open their elders' eyes to the devastating impact their old school, unadventurous attitude can have on their childrens' dreams.

Ezzat's documentary is an enjoyable treat and a tribute to the kindness and tolerance of the people of Egypt, a place so many of us -- Egyptian Americans -- still call home.
