HTML5 is HERE!
We are proud to announce we have just completed three days of intense training with some of the leading developers in the industry and are excited to be officially implementing HTML5 at our studio.

HTML5 is the newest programing standard in the field of web design.  While it's implementation is strictly voluntary, it offers many advantages over previous standards.  We addressed a few last month as we discussed the evolution and discontinuation of Flash by the team at Adobe, however there are several other features which will truly impact users web experience on a regular basis.

From quicker loading times to advanced features such as transparency, rounded corners, and greater control of page formatting we expect HTML5 to provide us with additional design flexibility as well as reducing development time which is always favorable to our clients.

Some may be sitting back and saying "big deal... my site was built years ago... it loads fast, has rounded corners and transparency..."  Yup!  You may be right... Over the years our team has become quite proficient working within the previous standards and developing strategies to leverage the previous existing technologies to accomplish the same outcome.  We also used it sparingly over the last year or so as the browsers and other technology adapted these standards and implemented them in their new roll-outs & upgrades. Now, with HTML5 and the newly released versions of Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari, we'll be able to push the limits further, do it quicker, cleaner, and at a savings to you.

We've already had two phone calls about this since our posting on Facebook yesterday.  Let me take a minute to clarify three things.

Q. My website works fine.  Do I need to have you rebuild it in HTML5?

A. If your site is working as you like it and functions as you wish, there is no reason you need to rebuild your site to the new standard.  All websites have a life span which varies with individual clients.  If you feel your site does not reflect you, your business activities, etc and are looking for a change, it makes sense to develop a new site using the new standards at that time.

Q. HTML5 is going to replace the FLASH sites of today.  Can you build me a traditional FLASH site in HTML5 now?

A. YES & NO.  We can certainly work with you to build you a new site using HTML5 and integrate video, audio, animation, etc.  The issue is that although the standards exist and are being used today, not every browser has adopted every standard.  The industry thought leaders believe it may not be until late 2014 when all browsers are fully compatible with this standard.  Adobe's recent announcement appears to have shaken the market and perhaps may accelerate this time line.  There is an industry buzz about to build with FLASH or HTML today... If you fall into this category, contact us.  We can provide you with more specifics.

Q. How significant of a savings can I expect with and HTML5 site?

A. Good question!  What do you want to build?  What we have noticed in our limited experience thus far is that building a simple layout or "lower budget" site takes about the same time.  Where we are seeing a savings in time is on sites that have may layers involved in their design, complex graphics, multimedia, etc.  We have two that started the development phase as of yesterday, it is our estimation that they took approximately 10-15% less time to get them to where they are today in comparison to what it would have taken to build them using the old standard.

Construction Update
It's official!  The construction of our new studio is underway.  We have begun the demolition work of old walls and flooring.  Updates to the mechanical systems, electrical service are underway.  We've framed out the new storage/staging area and will be completing most of the framing by the end of the month. We are working on a final technology layout and hope to have that incorporated by early next month.

We remain on track to be up and running by our anniversary in February!  Stay tuned for more details or follow us on Facebook for regular updates.  We hope to have some photos up shortly.

Referrals
A special thank you to the many clients who continue to refer us business on a regular basis.  We recently evaluated the source of our new clients and found that almost 85% came from a direct referral from an existing client.

We value the trust you put in us for not only handling your business, but also putting your reputation behind us as you refer us to those who look to you for advice.

Thank you!

Snippets
  • For those of you searching for a tablet this season, the new Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet have created a stir in the market and prices are dropping to all time lows on many other products.  If you are looking be sure to take the time to do your homework... there are some really great options and some big rip offs!  (See last month's newsletter for more details.)
  • Although the snow has only made a few minor appearances in our region... winter temperatures are here.  It's best if you remember to bring your electronic toys, computers, gps units, tablets, and anything with batteries, lcd screens, etc inside.  Leaving them in your car or exposed to the elements may significantly shorten their life span!
