ReStore Study
Lisa Burnett
Okanagan College honours business student Lisa Burnett smiles after giving her presentation about Habitat for Humanity's ReStores. ReStores sell used building materials and help support HFH's work across Canada.
We are looking for some volunteers with retail backgrounds to serve on a task force to explore the idea of setting up a ReStore in Kelowna. Please contact us to learn more.

HFH Kelowna Receives Grant
Since 1996, The Home Depot has been the largest supporter of Habitat for Humanity in Canada.  We are pleased to announce that our affiliate has been awarded a Sustainable Building Grant from The Home Depot Canada Foundation.

Habitat for Humanity and The Home Depot are committed to environmentally responsible building practices.

In addition to the grant, The Home Depot employees are offered the opportunity to get involved with this build project through The Home Depot Team Depot program.

"We truly appreciate the support that The Home Depot and its employees have shown for Habitat for Humanity," says Brigitte Reimer, HFH Kelowna co-chair. "With these funds, we'll be able to use more environmentally sustainable building materials for our Westside project." [read more]

What's In A Name? Plenty
Habitat for Humanity has the same brand-name recognition as Starbucks, according to Interbrand, an image consultancy company.

"One of the strengths of the Habitat brand is its unique mission,"
writes Barry Silverstein. "In the non-profit world, one can find organizations

"Very few, however, share Habitat's mission and the manner in which it is carried out.... Habitat is not a tradit
ional charity; instead of giving away money, it directly engages the eventual beneficiary, the homeowner, in the charitable endeavor. Homeowners may end up helping other homeowners build homes. This creates a sense of ownership and pride, as well as a deep commitment to helping others."
