A Message from Rabbi Bernie Fox
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Thank you for your many expressions of compassion and consideration during the period surrounding my mother's passing and shiva. I am pleased that I was able to spend the shiva and surrounding days in Pittsburgh and in my parents' home. I sat shiva with my mother's surviving sisters, surrounded by immediate family and my aunts and many cousins. Friends of my parents visited throughout the week. Your cards, gifts, tributes, phone calls, and emails were very moving and made a wonderful impression upon my family and the Pittsburgh community.
Again, thank you and best wishes,
Rabbi Bernie Fox

| Volleyball Update from Rabbi Owen
Let me begin by congratulating our NYHS Women's Volleyball Team for their successes this season - both on and off the court. I am very proud of our team and the values to which they are committed.
I hope that you have had a chance to see the media coverage of our team. If not, here are links to some of the stories:
Sabbath Scheduling Forces NYHS Volleyball Out of Tournament - KCPQ TV
NYHS sits out State Tournament -JT News
Our current plan is to work with the WIAA to reach an agreement that will provide our students with an accommodation that will afford them the opportunity to participate in future volleyball tournaments should they fall on Shabbat. Towards this goal, we have a meeting scheduled for mid-December with the WIAA. I will report back to you about the results of our meeting.
I want to thank the numerous community members who have offered their support and guidance through this process.
As we continue this process, I welcome your comments and input by email, phone or in person.
Shabbat Shalom.
Rabbi Owen

Seventy Years Ago - Thanking our Veterans
by Zev Behar 2013
If I had been alive seventy years ago, I would most likely have been living in Germany, which means I would most likely be a prisoner in a concentration camp.
Seventy years ago, I likely would have died within the year.
Today Jewish teenagers in America take for granted the fact that they can walk on the streets in public without being harassed. We take for granted the fact that we can go interact freely with non Jews. We take for granted the fact that in our country, freedom and liberty and justice for all is the goal.
That is why whenever I see a veteran I thank him/her for his/her service to our country. Without our veterans, many of us might never have been born. Last week, we observed Veterans Day on November 11th and we should all think about the freedoms we take for granted and thank the people who have given us that privilege.
