Money Lost, but NOT Weight
In 2009, Americans spent $1.6 billion on weight loss supplements. Two recent studies presented to the International Congress on Obesity show that they wasted their money. Each of the studies looked at 9 different popular weight loss supplements.

One study compared the results of placebo to results from using L Carnitine, polyglucosamine, cabbage powder, Guarana seed powder, bean extract, Konjac extract, fibre pills, sodium alginate formulations, and selected plant extracts. All groups averaged between 1 and 2 kgs of weight loss, including the placebo group.

The second study was a systematic review of the clinical trials of nine supplements - chromium picolinate, ephedra, bitter orange, conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), calcium, guar gum, glucomannin, chitosan and green tea. It found no evidence of weight loss compared to placebo.

Conclusion: Take the money you spend on useless supplements and spend it instead on healthy habits like good nutritious food and exercise.
News of the Month

Healthy Habits Fitness Star of the Month is KJ. In her first month of working out with Trainer Jay, her curves are coming back and she can fit into her skinny jeans again, while at the same time excelling on her push up test. Her new goal is to rock those jeans.

Tough Guy Award goes to AL. When its stretching time, she lays down directly onto the wooden floor.   Mat? She don't need no stinking mat!

Jeanne is the Queen of Zumba Gold.  Shake it, Sister!

WR continues to sleep better and feel better after working out for a couple months.

RR managed to hurt her neck by flipping her head while blow drying her hair. Don't try this at home, kids.

Thought I had a new client for a while - 7 year old Jenna accompanied her mom MM to workout a couple mornings and hugged the recumbent bike when they left. Said she'd rather come to Healthy Habits with her mom than sleep in. But it didn't last long - now she sleeps in.

Class Call
We have some new openings in our current class schedule. Its a great time to start an exercise program or add an extra workout at a bargain price - only $20 a class!

We have openings on Monday, Wednesday and / or Friday mornings from 6:30 - 7:30 am, Tuesday evenings from 6-7 pm, and Saturday mornings from 10 -11 am. All these classes provide challenging overall workouts, with varying segments of cardio, core and strength training in each class. Call Mike at 684-1607 to arrange a free trial class and see if its right for you.
